I received this e-mail today after signing a petition. I'm passing it along to those of you who reside in the area, as I'm too far away to personally get in on the action.

Volunteer and participate in activities designed to keep the land open to OHV use, and learn about the benefits of legal off-roading in the meantime.

Quote:
Dear potential Volunteer,

My name is Jeffrey Dozier and I am the Land Use Coordinator for The Daniel Boone National Forest (DBNF) for the Southern Four Wheel Drive Association (SFWDA). I am the author of the petition you signed indicating interest in a Highway Legal Vehicular Trail System in the DBNF near Slade, KY. Located at this link:http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/sandlick/

Thank you for your interest in this cause. It is time to organize. The USFS is developing a scoping notice which begins the process of deciding upon an action to take regarding the Sandlick/Bigbend Watershed project. Their goal is to "Improve water quality and reduce soil loss in riparian and rare areas by managing and maintaining the many open roads in the Sand Lick and Big Bend Watersheds." This could have many outcomes. We surely need to be organized and calculated in our efforts, hence the need to organize promptly.

I am sending this email for two reasons. First, I am building a volunteer database in order to show the public land managers how strongly we support sustainable access and to mobilize our support in the future. It shows the land managers we are willing to work for this cause in various ways including donations of time, skills, material, equipment, organizational skills, administration skills, and money. Also, building a volunteer database is a convenient way for me to communicate information to interested parties through an email list. This will assist in keeping everyone abreast of developments and future actions to fully support our cause. This will serve to keep the current issues accurate and timely.

If you are willing to volunteer and want to be added to the volunteer database, please reply to:

savesandlick@gmail.com

Please type Slade in the subject line.

Please include your name and preferred email address (if different from the one you replied from) along with any skills you possess.

Off-road Clubs or groups can send one email listing names and email addresses to streamline the building of this volunteer database.

Thank you for your time in helping to maintain sustainable access. Please feel free to pass this information to anyone who may wish to join. We will communicate in the near future, so please stay tuned. Here are some informational links on the topic as well as USFS links to help spread the knowledge.

Feel free to Email savesandlick@gmail.com with your name, email address if different, and any skills you may have along with any feedback for me. This is a big year for Sandlick.

Thank you once again,

Jeff Dozier

maybe this copy is easier to read for ya
or clear as mud?

Greetings to all,

UPDATE ON SANDLICK: The project slated to improve the road management at Sandlick/Bigbend Watershed has not been "selected for analysis" at this time. This means that they are not presently working on the project but sometime in the future it will be selected and their process will take place (I get the feeling it will be soon!). This also means that the area is open to licensed, insured, and registered vehicles to the routes on the 2011 motor vehicle use maps (http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/boone/maps/mvum.shtml). Please tread lightly!

Follow the project here:

http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/boone/planning/ ... ject=18901

CLEAN-UP TIME! Please join the Trailkeepers and Zoe Volunteer Fire Department in a day of stewardship. The trail clean up is on May 8th in Slade, Kentucky from 9am-6pm. Volunteers need to meet at the Zoe firehouse. Please pack a lunch and supper will be provided by the Trailkeepers Foundation.

If you have any questions or plan on attending email me at amanda@trailkeepers.org

EMAIL YOUR POLITICIAN! Now is the time to contact your state politicians and encourage them to join us in support of OHV access in the Slade area as well as other areas of the Daniel Boone National Forest (DBNF). Feel free to write in your own words or copy and paste the letter below as well as use the provided links to find your politician's email address. It is absolutely critical that the politicians see how important OHV access is to local economies and the OHV enthusiasts.

"Dear Politician, please support off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation on our public lands in eastern Kentucky. Specifically, please join our local and nationwide enthusiasts in encouraging the land manager, USFS District Ranger Dave Manner, to recognize our present OHV access and include our OHV access in any action he puts forth regarding the Sandlick/Bigbend Road Management Improvement Project. The local economies depend on funds generated from OHV recreation. The public depends on OHV access to provide equal opportunity recreation on our public lands. It is imperative that the USFS respect OHV access and manage for recreation.

Please contact District Ranger Dave Manner at the following email address:
James D. Manner <davemanner@fs.fed.us> or

James D. Manner at the

Cumberland Ranger District - Daniel Boone National Forest
2375 KY 801 South
Morehead, KY 40351
606-784-6428 in support of OHV access in the Sandlick/Bigbend tract of public land as well as other areas of the Daniel Boone National Forest."

Feel free to forward this email to anyone and everyone who will help. Feel free to email other politicians in support of our cause. Please send email addresses or lists of email addresses to savesandlick@gmail.com to be added to the volunteer database and receive these email updates. Take action before it is too late! We are right on time with this request to contact politicians so please do not waste this opportunity.

Stay well,

Jeffrey Dozier
