Clevis Lift

OK

I just installed an OME lift on my KJ and the front is sitting about 5mm higher than the rear. this is a picture of the clevis and strut assbly

can I have the bottom of the spring base resting on the top of the clevis bracket, which hopefully will bring me back to level

did you have a pain in the butt with putting the spring and stuff back on the bottom control arm? and if you did how did you put everything back together?!

no it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be we didnt even diconnect the upper and lower A arms, just the upper and lower clevis bracket bolts and disconnected the sway bar it all went in well

As I understand it, as standard the bottom of the strut is supposed to sit flush on the top of the clevis bracket. What people do for the "free" clevis lift is do exactly this; lift the strut up a bit in the bracket. There have been cases of it slipping back down though, unless you put some sort of spacer in between the strut and the bracket.

In your case, is it the same both sides? i.e. is it an installation mistake, or was this intentional?

So...you're asking if you can undo your clevis lift? :wink:

Yeah, I think that's okay.

To put it in a less obnoxious way...I'm pretty sure that my spring bases are resting on the clevis brackets. Did yours come from the factory that way, or did they just end up that way after you reassembled them?

(BTW, it looks really nice, in your other post.)

I probably will drop it back flush so its Level

i know its probably just me but I can SEE its a bit higher in the front than the back :oops:

Hey, I hear ya...with all the weight I've added (boulder bars, skids, cargo rack) my rear end is starting to sag. <insert joke here> I see it every day and it's driving me nuts. I think I can fix it by just putting my isolators back in, but I'm afraid it will look silly.

FOUROS... Did you drive it around the block a few times like Eddo recommended to allow your new lift to settle. Maybe you should drive it a few days... it'll probably level out over time. Or you can add isolators in the rear. Man, I can't wait to get mine lifted!

yeah had a 20 mile drive home and a 10 mile trip to get the alignment

we will see, I have a 150 mile trip for work on wednesday I will take measurements on wed night

FOUROS: Cool... I don't remember, did you get the Med or HD OME springs? When you get a chance, could you measure how much lift you gained under the front crossmember, right behind the diff. Mines only 7.5 inches, even after a clevis lift. Thx.

i have the Medium Duty springs and i have got a fraction over 10" at the crossmember

Excellent! 10 inches is really decent. I'm tired of rocks bashing my crossmember. I miss the high ground clearance my Cherokee XJ had. I suspect the Med springs will have a slightly softer ride than the HD's. How do you think the Mediums compare to the stock spring ride? Thx.

Just curious, what time is it on the Gold Coast right now. It's 20:30 in Phx, AZ.

the mediums are stiffer the KJ now corners flatter, but give me a couple of weeks on them, they should settle by then

and its 1.43pm 12/09/ on the Gold Coast

Since you are using the stock strut you really can't lower it any futher. Look closely at the picture and you will a little raised metal line that keeps the strut for going any lower. You would need to grind it off the strut or get new struts.

However, you could raise the rear by using an extra spring issolator to level it back out again. But give it time. The front might settle on you. Go take some big bumps. It did on me, especailly when you start adding skids and bars.
