Does anyone experience a little extra engine noise and vibration at around 800 RPM? Mine has a dull reverb that begins right above idle and then it goes away around 900 rpm. I can also feel the vibration in the steering column. Tried shifting between P-F-R and it doesn't seem to be tranny related.
Annoying little buzz.
Have also noticed it does it sometimes at stop signs and red lights - particularly with A/C going - idle in drive.
It's a 2005 with 10K miles.
I was wondering if normal or do I have other issues? Motor mounts, etc?

Man you are good, if I have a noise I can't find, I am going to bring it your way, just kidding
my hearing is a blessing as I grow older, I hear less and less.

Yes. Mine had something similar from day one and disapeared when I put the AeroTurbine on. It would sometimes drone very loud, to the point where conversation was impacted. I did hear of another poster long ago with a similar drone at idle and his turned out to be a loose baffle plate in the muffler. Replacing the muffler on his cured the ill.

You are not alone brother! I also have a 2005 CRD.
I have had the same noise/vibration for eight months and it drives me nuts. DC Australia has said it is "within manufacturers' specifications", which is absolute BS. Well, it wasn't there when I purchased the truck, then seven months later it appears out of the blue.
The problem started at about 8000kms and has now become really annoying (@18000kms).
However DC has changed the engine mounts and spent some time doing TCM and ECU flashes yet the noise and vibration is still there.
I get the problem right from startup hot or cold, worse with the AC on. Very noticeable at idle and low revs. I have also noticed more droning noise from the exhaust under harder acceleration.
I think you guys might have hit on the problem with the muffler. I will have a look when I fit my EGT gauge in the next few weeks as I have to remove the pipe between the turbo and the muffler to tap in the pyro.
Here I was thinking that I was on my own with this one!!

I have this same issue as well. My dealer looked at it and said they checked the alignment of the exhaust system and made sure it was within specs. Definitely an exhaust system issue, I'm hoping it goes away when I replace the muffler.

Was the AreoTurbine worth the extra dough? It's time to uncork mine and looking at either an AT or a Magnaflow.

It was to me for several reasons. I wanted a free flow muffler, but I also wanted a lifetime stainless steel muffler. I'm sure you can find less expensive solutions, but iirc, buying a jeep oem muffler from a dealer is about the same cost as the Aero-turbine. I notice now that Aero-Turbine has added the resonator into a single unit for around the same price as a 2525 used to be.

I don't know much about mufflers/exhaust but isn't the Magnaflow a stright-thru design too? For the same price? Also with a lifetime?

I've heard of that brand, and not sure I'd want to go with a less recognized company who won't be as concerned with their market share when problems arise (huh, well, except for Jeep and their EGR/AirFliter/TC Shudder, that is... ).

Problems on a straight through muffler? It's a muffler with a straight pipe in the center, with an outer core shell with a fixed flow nozzle in the front. Unless soot particles big enough to clog a 2 inch straight pipe in the center stop it from venting exhaust, I'm not sure what there is to fail.

Hi Ranger1,
Did the AeroTurbine muffler increase exhaust noise above original levels...highway, constant speed vs city, stop/go?

Marlon, I just got the plate and I was surprised it was still available.

Yes, somewhat. When I measured it with a sound meter, it was about 3dbA louder than OEM inside the cab. Inside the cab, I can't tell very much difference without a sound meter. Outside it has a lower tone. The newer AT's have a built-in resonator for quieter soujnd levels. They might be very close to the OEM levels. One noticeable effect is the power under load or uphill - nice difference - just seems to scoot faster under load. I think this would be true with any free flow exhaust on the CRD.

Yes, 3dbA is somewhat louder considering sound level increase is exponential. Was this increase across all driving conditions?. My main concern is whether the exhaust note develops a drone or increased noise level at highway speeds, say 60-70 mph.

On mine, there was a slight drone around 65 mph with the factory muffler. It doesn't have any with the AT.

Did you buy your AT on line? The closest authorized dealer is almost 100 miles away. Concerned that a muffler shop will understand the install of the AT or want to deal with a muffler they didn't sell.

No, found a local dealer listed on the AT site. Had to take it to a Midas shop as the dealer was a performance shop and didn't provide installation.

Forgot to ask...is the noise more noticeable from the passenger side front seat (driver's seat for me) ? The noise is a dull reverb and it seems to pulse sometimes like something buzzing on a sheet of thin metal?! The vibration is still there around 1100 rpm then the drone takes over.

My wife said it was worse on the right side. Yes, mine was worse at stoplights and idle. It didn't always do it at stoplights, but when it did, it was unmistakable. When it started, it was a loud rattle, then turned into a drone at higher rpm, disapearing around 1600 rpm. It was extremely loud on mine, nothing insignificant about it and seemed to reverb inside the cab. It was also easy to diagnose, when idling in my driveway one morning, it started and I put my shoe on the muffler tailpipe - it stopped. Even after checking the muffler hanger and joints, I could not find anything to cause the rattle. I've not heard of many CRD's with this issue. Only a few.
