I'm kind of curious how the rest of you ended up with your CRD. Me personally, I had never considered buying a jeep and would not have done so if not for the Liberty CRD.

Ironically now, I'm thinking of adding a Wrangler to my collection as a convertable! Please don't tell my wife, though...

Nope, the only reason I considered and bought the Liberty CRD was due to the availability of the diesel engine. Thats also the only reason why I'm most likely going to pick up a GC CRD within the next few years

Diesel was the deciding factor. If it weren't for the Libby CRD my folks would have decided on a Hyundai Tuscon or Kia Sportage... I wanted to keep it domestic so I'm really happy with the Jeep turns heads everywhere and at the pumps its pretty funny seeing the expression on people's faces when they see you filling up with diesel.

I wanted one vehicle to do 95% of what needed done and the only one that did that with some economy was the Liberty. Had I not purchased the Liberty I would likely have purxhased a sub compact high miler and put more mles on the PU.

The poor mileage would have probably stopped me from buying Jeep again...Thank Goodness for the CRD...

Not sure what I would have ended up with...Something AWD and Diesel...or Mercedes Diesel/VW TDI...

I tell ya'...there is just nothing out there quite like the CRD with Full-Time 4WD

I would never have given up my Jetta TDI if it wasn't for the CRD. Much like Cowcatcher I needed an "everything" vehicle. Truck, daily driver, people hauler, tourer, and a capable off-road machine all in one - that is my CRD.
:D
I owned a 62' Willys, a 74' Scout, and a 94' Suburban long before I got my liberty. My Liberty can do what those things and my TDI could do. Now that is a capable vehicle.

Diesel was the ONLY reason for a Liberty or any current model Jeep - otherwise I would still have my old 1974 CJ6 as a toy, and a new 'something else' as a daily driver.

My good old girl, now somewhere on the East Coast:

I sold her to develop cash for the CRD purchase. I still think it was a good choice.

No. I was perfectly happy with my very clean 99 Cherokee except for it's thirst for gasoline  I also enjoyed a 99.5 jetta tdi :D My son now has both my 99.5 jetta and 99 Cherokee (best of both) and I have my CRD Limited Liberty that will be difficult to put a ladder on the roof AFTER I get cross rails

If it had not been for the CRD diesel, I would not have bought a Jeep. My previous vehicle was a GM Yukon with a 6.5 L diesel, which was an excellent machine, except that the Stanadyne injection pump had a life of about 20,000 miles between replacements and could not be reliably fixed. If GM had been able to make the injection pump work the way it was supposed to, I would have kept the Yukon.

One other vehicle I was curious about was the Touareg diesel. But the price (equal to 2 or 3 Jeeps), the poor reputation VW has for reliability, and the scarcity of these vehicles made them unattractive

My g/f wanted a Liberty cause it was 'cute.' I wanted an Escape because I'm a Ford guy. However, after researching and comparing I went with the Liberty for two sole factors 1) Towing capacity 2) and the deciding factor was the diesel engine.

I'm thinking that if this Poll continues to run the way it is, someone should forward this poll to a higher up at DC. So far, only 6% of the people on this forum would have bought or considered buying a jeep if not for the diesel engine. Even with a significant margin of error, that makes it likely that because of the CRD they made 10,000 +/- sales the would not have otherwise.

Wife wanted a SUV as she was tired of as she would say "her butt dragging the ground" and wanted a VW Touareg TDI (V10 diesel) and they are only rated 23 highway. Now that is outstanding MPG's for a 3 ton AWD SUV but average list is $60,000 and that was another no go for me. I didn't think the wife needed a $60,000 vehicle to treat like it is was a trash can, like she has done every other car she has had over the years.

If D/C does not have a CDI MB V6 diesel in the Magnum or Charger next fall I might jump ship to the Touareg diesel for myself. Man if I did that the wife would do the Bobbit fix on me as I sleep, so that is likely not going to happen.

I was driving a Nissan Xterra when I found out about the CRD. The x was very reliable and needed little repair. It was very rugged and I no problems with taking it off pavement or in deep snow, etc However, it NEVER got better than 17.5mpg and often was less than 15.

If it wasnt for the CRD, I would probably have bought a jetta tdi, or some other econobox to get increased mpg and kept the xterra. I would have used that car as daily driver and "saved" the xterra. The CRD allowed me to have in one vehicle what would have taken me two: i.e. SUV capability and good MPG (not tdi good, but good never the less)

I was looking for a tow vehicle, at least 5000 lbs, 20+ fuel mileage (which eliminates all but the diesels), could carry 4 passengers comfortably. Be nice to be able to fit it in my garage too.

I was considering the Dodge Cummins or the Ford F250 crew cab, until I found out about the CRD. CRD fits the bill and fits in my garage... The fact that I can go wheeling is the icing on the cake.

This is my first jeep, I love it. I would consider a wrangler if it had a diesel.

I would have considered a wrangler as well. Even though they are loud on the highway, I love Wranglers. I just never bothered with the mileage being so bad. Even the 4-banger gets bad mileage AND it doesn't tow like the 4.0... :(

I love my CRD!!! :D

I had a 2000 Cherokee that I traded in on the CRD.

I test drove a Liberty Renegade - really liked the vehicle EXCEPT for the 3.7 V6. Didn't have the same low-end grunt that the old 4.0 in my Cherokee did. Then I drove the CRD, and bought it the same day. There are some things that I don't like as much as the Cherokee (less ground clearance, feels more top heavy, and the IFS, lol) but overall, I feel like it is a good vehicle. I miss the Cherokee, and would like to have another as a play toy, but the Liberty beats it hands down for a daily driver.

I went to the dealer to buy a Wrangler (hadn't decided on unlimited or std) I test drove the CRD just to see how the Diesel compared... and bought it.

If a 4dr, CRD, Wrangler would have been available I would have bought it. The CRD Grand Cherokee wasn't firm yet or I might have waited for that. My Libby is a great truck and I don't regret buying it, but a 4dr, CRD, Wrangler (if they build it) is in my future.
