Have fun in Flag Todd, sorry you can't make it.
Kevin...I don't know where we are all meeting but, i'll drive the CJ there that way it can at least be seen. I know it isnt as great as seeing it on the trail...but it is better than seeing it broken down on the trail  .

OK, here is a an overhead from Google Earth. You can see where the trail takes off from Butcher Jones; you go out to another road then backtrack a bit to get to the coves. You can also see from all the errosion channels that there is plenty of fun wheeling out this way 8)

So, where are we meeting? There is an overflow parking area at Butcher Jones, don't know if you have to have a paid sticker to park there long term or not. Another option might be the parking lot of Fort McDowell casino - anyone who is riding with someone else could probably leave their vehicle there in the outer portions of the parking lot. Or one of the fast food/gas places at the end of Shea, just west of Hwy. 87. Whereever we meet I plan on being there around 6:30-7am to start waiting for people.

"You can also see from all the errosion channels"

I think that area is called "The Rolls". I wonder why.

Alright, well I just got done moving to Cave Creek (cause I now work in north Scottsdale) and had to buy an aircard to connect to the internet. It's either that or dial-up.

Well, again I am going to have to ride with someone for the run. So if someone has a spare seat, please reserve it for me. I just need a meeting place/time.

Later

So where would you all like to meet? We can meet somewhere right off the loop 101 on Shea Blvd then just caravan up Shea through Fountain Hills to the trailhead...does that sound like a good idea? Or we can meet in Fountain Hills at that new shopping center with the Target in it (on the south side of Shea Blvd about a half mile from the Beeline) then take off from there. Or the Fort McDowell casino...which one sounds best? Oh and what time works for everyone?

I'd like to try to make this run and meet the group. Just have a question as to
what I need to make this run? I have a stock 4x4 with full skids and a powertrax,
but don't have any tow hooks yet. Can I make or should I try to make this run? Only
been four wheelin about 4 months and nothin' to serious.I tried to do the CK trail
and made it to the state land fence(coming from Lake pleasant) which had a sign that said it was closed, this was back in June.

A stock KJ with armor and a locker is plenty good for what we'll encounter out in this area - it's mostly hill climbing. I can't think of anything that would require recovery points, but if something happens we can figure it out. The first time I went out to this area I was running the original tires and did fine. Come on out and meet the rest of the gang (well, most of 'em).

I'm good for meeting at the new Target, say around 8:30am. That gives us plenty of time to get to Butcher Jones by 9am and also gives those who are hitching rides a place to park their vehicles.

Cool, I can sleep in 8)

I'll be the other white heap hanging around the Butcher Jones lot around 9'ish. Is this area real brushy and scratchy (read AZ pinstriping) or wide open. Don't tell Ilene but I'm thinking of snagging her Wrangler to do this run. But if I get it scratched up she'll kill me.

Unfortunately I am going to have to bail on this one also. I just got done pulling a 20 hour shift at my job and I can't handle only a few hours sleep at this point.

Beth... I wish you a safe journey to basic. Take care of yourself and keep your head down. :D

Take Care
