clear pic. Let me askyou, is taht thing snug all the way around the collar? It looks like there's a gap between the collar and the bottom side of the diff.

Mine is snug totally.

Perhaps it's the shadows.

I am going to run through a check today to verify but it showed no gaps at the time when I finished.

Hey Matt, I know you're new and haven't been around computers much, but there's this cool tube thing Al Gore invented and you can send people emails with it. You should check it out. :D

Anyone but me have this problem?

I can't get the thing to fit between the collar and the underneath cross member. The outer diameter of the collar is too large. I'm thinking could this be different on CRD's. Did anyone else with a diesel order one?

The inner diameter seems fine. At least on the half that I could get on.

Jason

Any one? Any one?

Here is some picks of what I am talking about. It just will not fit between the crossmember and differential.

Hey fellas. I wasn't logged on today so I didn't see the timely requests until now.

1) Matty, you pay for long distance calls? Really? Let's see, you don't get fedex, and you pay for LD calls. What year is it where you live?

I'll be out of the office again much of tomorrow. I'd suggest you send John an email. If he doesn't respond, let me know and I'll call him wednesday for you.

2) KJHawaii - this is so cool that our little group buy reached all the way from Long Island to The Island!

3) Jason, if I'm seeing your pics right, you're trying to put the collar on with the seem at 12 and 6 o'clock. Try putting them at 3 and 9 o'clock. I'm not sure, but I think the collar might be thinner there. That's how I did it. I have about an 1" or less of clearance. Maybe that will be enough for you to get it on there.

No, I was trying for 3 and 9 o'clock. The collar as seen in the photo is at about 2 and 8. I put it on top and rotated it as far as it will go. My crossmember is closer to the dif. Than what is showed in the other picks. With the bottom of collar sitting on the crossmember. It will not clear the differential housing by a good 3/16".

Jason

That's odd, but not totally surprising given the variousances in build on these KJ's.

Only thing I can think of is maybe if you had it on a lift and got some of the skids out of the way, you'll better be able to get it in there.

Also, you may want to double check that nothing is bent causing this big difference.

Maybe a mount to the diff got bent or something. I dunno.

Hopefully, it's just a different space and not already damaged under there. Worst case is that you can't use hte part. I'm sure you can sell it to another lost member. Hell, Matty is still waiting for his. maybe he'll buy yours if you can get it to him!

Took 15 min, no jack needed (thanks frakenlift) but still had to make minor adjustments.
Had all the equipment out since I was making the rack and waiting for the paint to dry.

It was tight, although I could have easily forced it on I

1 - light hand sand housing and checked
2 - Light grinding inside of collar and checked hand sand and checked
3 - Bevel connecting edges slightly and checked - fit good
4 - apply locktight to bolts
5 - 1/2 turn past snug
6 - crack a rocky mountain cold one

Jason - I was looking under the KJ to see if it was possible to make adjustment. I saw something that allows side to side adjustment on one side only. Any Luck Yet??

that pic is tilted 90*, right?

Hmm, locktight. That would have been a good idea.

Gotta watch that filing - don't want to make a gap in between the parts anywhere.

I have an 06 CRD Sport and my diff collar fit just fine. All though I took it out for a test run off-road and I was getting a weird vibration in 4wd part time and also in full time. The vibration was intermitten and it felt like the front was binding too much in turns. So I took the diff collar off and went off-roading again today and the vibration was gone. The clanking noise that I was getting also was gone as well.

On a side note in dry conditions I'm very impressed with the climbing ability of the 06's with ESP. I went up some real steep stuff. I mean REAL steep with some articulation involved. I'm loving how I never seem to kill the engine with the CRD. My friend with a Ford Ranger with a little 4 banger has to really rev his engine up to get the torque to climb the steep hills then he invariably kills the engine just at the wrong time right in the middle of the hill. I can go up anything with low rpms and not stall the engine. Went up a hill that you would probably need lockers to get up. ESP Rocks! As long as you are on dry ground.

Catherine

Yes, I went off up in the hills by myself. I know I'm not supposed to go alone bla bla bla

but you had noises caused by the collar? Were there any signs that the collar was hitting on anything?
