Is it me, or are there less post's regarding EGRproblems? The whole front page of the board today was full of misc. stuff, but not a lot of breakdows/problems.

I posted in two threads Water Separator Warning Light and Tranny TSB 7/14 that my CRD has a failed Torque Converter and Transmission pump that just happened Monday.
Have not seen EGR breakdown discussions this week.

I asked the guy delivering fuel the other day at the station whether he was hauling Low or Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel. He said pretty much everything produced now is ULSD so that it can dilute the LSD enough to get it within spec by the September deadline. This may be a good thing for our EGR's.

Seems like after they replaced my EGR Mix Valve the CRD has been trouble free.
Dont know what do with my free time now that I am not wasting my time at the dealer. Guess it will give me some time to work on the Wrangler.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but California is the only state that has to be switched over to ULSD by Sept. 1 and everywhere else has a deadline of Oct. 1?

Hope you filled out the NTHSA report, could have hurt you if the CRD did that in traffic.

EGR replaced a couple of weeks ago - 2nd replacement egr, 3rd on vehicle in 21K miles... all with Provent installed, 1st one had 2500 miles without provent, 2nd one had all Provent miles, but 2 quarts of oil blew through the turbo into the intake at around 19K miles and a short time later it died. 3 EGR valves in 21K miles - if this average continues, by 70K miles it'll have been through 10 egr valves. Might be cheaper for DC to build a better valve :-) Or at least a quick snap-in cartridge egr unit. Something like the air cleaner...

I will do that once the repair order is given to me. Right now, DCX is telling the tech to replace the torque converter and pump. After the repair is done under warranty, I will fill out the NTHSA form.
Thanks for the reminder

Went to gas up the wife's Minivan that I need to take on a business trip. While at the truck stop, a guy from Illinois was filling up his Sprinter Van. I initiated conversation, and his Mercedes-Benz 5 cylinder Diesel in the Sprinter has gone through 2 EGR replacements. He stated that just last week he was also having stalling issues with the MB. When he took it to the dealership, the best they could tell him was that he got a batch of "bad fuel".
He is absolutely disgusted with MB and the Sprinter.
I did not even discuss my woes of the "Libby" being out of commission for a torque converter and transmission pump for the last four days.

A classic example. Get the motor oil out of your air intake and most this problem will go away. This not only means the oil from the CCV line but also the oil that is getting past the turbo seals (for whatever reason).

This is so awesome! We are both driving our wife's minivans because our CRDs are acting up! I'm at 14,108 miles on mine and I've basically parked it until January as I absolutely have to have a dependable vehicle for my trips right now...

Know that feeling. That's why my old '87 Subaru still has a lease on life, at least until I'm satisifed that the '87 MB 300D is up to spec.

Truely sad when your most valuable vehicle is your second car. In somewhat the same situation, if it acts up I use another vehicle. A high percentage of my current mileage is related to the effort to debug this before winter. When the snow flies, this thing had best be working or I will be a very unhappy.

I'll go one better.. it's not my second car that I rely on, but my 76+ years old Model A Fords. Can't tell you how many times one of them have taken me somewhere when the moderns are dead. They have never ever let me down. Gotta love the simple ones.

Just under 24K miles here and popped a check engine light on the way to work last night. I havn't noticed anything wrong or any noises. I however, have noticed that I have been getting GREAT milage. I'm at 375 on the odometer and have just a sliver under a 1/4 tank left. Anyway, I take it into the dealer this am and they tell me the EGR is bad. Thats my third from the factory. Gotta love that. He sataes that Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illonois are having the worst EGR problems due to the content of the diesel fuel in these states. He further stated that the Dodge Sprinter was having problems as well with their EGR's.

Hopefully today I get to refill with the best of both worlds an ULSD/B10. I have wipped out my CAC hoses and around the intake of the EGR throttle body. I was surprised at the lack of oil accumulation compared to what I have read in some post. I've had it parked on a 1/5 of a tank of fuel for the past three days awaiting to refuel today. This morning it started right up and no transmission delay. I was fotunate enough that I had very few miles and a dealer that performed the tranny TSB and reflash at the EGR replacement. This service and repair was performed during a warranty repair to the cruise control. All in all I feel blessed with a vehicle that has had minimal problems, a service dealer who has addressed the issues and now the availablity of fuel that meets the spec of the owners manual of 15ppm. I will still continue to add the Stanadyn product for additional lubricity even though the Bio should address that issue. I have been told that the refiners are not obligated to add any additional lubricity package to the ULSD. If this is the case anyone with the availabilty of this fuel may want to be proactive in the prevention of early pump and injector failure.

I certainly don't have EGR problems with BP fuel which comes directly from the refiner/processor in Whiting, Indiana after 25k miles. So I'm not sure what the "content" of the diesel fuel would be.
I would be more concerned with the Southwest and West due to the oil imported from Mexico containing a large amount of asphaltines which can cause EGR problems.

It's too bad we have to keep a 2cd car around. I know for a fact anytime I go start my 83 Mercedes Benz 240D up it will purr like a kitten. Even though my CRD has not caused me any problems, I would trust the tried and true Mercedes OM616 engine over any computer controled diesel or gas engine. There are no ECU's to fail. I love my jeep but I cannot see it running as good as my 240D is now in 2029.
