Don't think I would like the 19 mpg highway of the 4x4 model.

I got b***h slapped today on the trade in offer for the CRD at the Toyota dealership, but you can see some cool pictures I took here as well as the trade in offer price at the bottom of the thread:

Parked or going down the street alone the FJ looks huge compared to the KJ. With yours parked next too it they look about the same except for length and wheel base.

Couldn't get me to switch even if it were a straight trade thank you. The mileage alone wouldn't justify it.

It sounds like the Toyota dealer is still in love with that FJ more than you at the present. Same thing happened when I wanted to trade my 96 Camry @ 2 1/2 years ago. Niether the Toyota or Honda dealer were willing to budge on price along with all their incentives based around their financing. In the end, I decided to put @ $6K back in my pocket and get an Impala. Atleast the little Chevy dealer knows how to cash a check.

Dont forget there is more demand than supply. Most Toy dealers wont even wheel and deal on a FJ, cause they know that there is a list of people waiting for one. My Partner at work just got one, and he has platinum credit etc. and he still got taken. He just wanted one that bad. his is fully loaded and he waited for almost 2 months for one that came in with what he wanted on it. just something to think about.....

I believe the MBA types call this the "Greater Fool Theory." Learned to spot this behavior quickly when working in sales. Also learned to keep quiet, confirm the fine choice they were making, and get a contract in front of them ASAP. You would be surprised what some people would buy and what they will pay. At times I think DC was playing this game with the CRD, limiting availability to test price & demand elasticity.

I stated pretty much the same thing shortly after the announcement of end of availability and got shouted at for the stupid idea. But it is true, I've sold cars on Hollywood Blvd to hick town MO and people are still the same.

I got insulted by the Toyota dealer last week as well....offered me 12K on trade for my '05 CRD w/15000 miles and absolutely perfect condition. I've bought 8 new cars over the past 15 years and have never been kicked in the jewels that badly by a dealer. I posted it on auto trader to see what happens and if it sells, I'll buy an FJ, but from another dealer.

After dealing with the CRD mechanical issues for almost a year, I do wonder if some are planned to test consumer reaction. Most of the problems are so basic that a trained mechanical eye, experienced with diesels, can spot them quickly. People that are experienced in building diesels should know better. Counting all the diesel car, trucks, and buses DC builds, they probably build more diesels than any company, they should know better.

My CRD is in the Lemmon Law process right now. I am looking to replace it with an FJ or a Ridgeline. The FJ looks like more fun but the Ridgeline has a ton of room and places to store stuff. One of the reasons I am looking at these vehicles is the reliability and service that these two companies represent. I have owned cars from each in the past and had excellent experiences in both cases. I traded in an '04 Dodge 2400 Ram Deisel for this CRD. I never had the first problem with that truck in 2 years and 40,000 miles.

I love the diesel in my CRD but not all the headaches that have come with the vehicle. It has been out of service, in the shop, for 28 days in 6 months. If it had not been for this forum, I would not have had a clue about how to handle some of these problems. I thank you guys for all your valuable information and ingenious inventions to make the CRD better. The deciding factor in getting rid of my CRD was the service. The last time I had it in for a tranny leak I had an oil change done. It took two days just for them to look at the transmission. They said it would be several days to order the filters to replace the origional transmission filters, which were installed backwards at the factory. I brought it home and it proceeded to leak dirty engine oil all over my garage floor for the next week. When they did the oil change they spilled oil all over the skid plates, and didn't even bother to clean it up. With all the problems I have had with my CRD and more problems down the road combined with the sloppy work in the service dept., I am calling it quits. Oh, and I just brought it back again for another transmission leak. This was last Friday. When they told me it would be Monday before they could look at it, even though the service is open on Saturday, I said I would leave it with them anyway. Only then did they put it up on the rack and look at it. They found a leaking seal in the linkage that was not properly sealed at the factory. This whole process took all of ten minutes to find and fix. The only reason they looked at it right away was because the service manager knew that I had applied for the Lemmon Law and called the district Service Rep. She told him to look at it immediately and not to have it out of service because it would look worse in the arbitration.

Sorry for all the negitivity, but I tried my best to stay the course with my CRD. I just don't see it in my best interest to continue. By the way, the Lemmon Law pays me for all added extras, taxes, title, and any L.O.S.T. revenue due to out of service, minus a reasonable amout for the miles driven.

Bad service all right. All that design and engineering screwed up by a bone headed dealer. You should publish the name of the dealer in big gigantic letters. I like the FJ much more than the Ridgleline, but that is just me.

I will tell you the Toyota dealers don't know what they are selling either.

Two different dealerships here in town did not know the manual 4x4 FJ is full time 4x4 and can not be disengaged into 2WD. The real world fuel mileage around town for that setup in the FJ is 13 to 15mpg average as reported by FJ owners on other sites.

I had to point that out to both dealers when they said "the manual will get better mileage!" Idiots.

Another funky thing about the FJ - there is no mist feature on the windshield wipers. Seems like a small issue, but I like being able to just "bump" the wipers to operate just once if it's misting out...

I traded in my 99 Chevy Tahoe 4X4 that got 12 mpg in town and 16mpg highway on the CRD. It would be like taking a step back with the FJ. Besides, is it not just a new body on a 4Runner chassis? If so, I would assume it would ride like a 4Runner.
