You can also go to Advance. Purolator L25230 and Pure One PL25230, about $8 for the Pure One. They're a carbon copy of the OEM filter, I've compared them side by side.

jackalopes at Lake Norman CJD will charge you $13 and change for an OEM filter.

With tax it was about $8 or $9, but it has been 6 months ago and I don't remember the exact price.

At my age I lucky to remember my name after I have a nap.

Always a pleasure to help. As for the HD, at almost 78k miles I think they did a very good job at making it the best. I'm still lovin' it. :D

Man I remember the pre evolution engines HD's that couldn't go 7k without a overhaul and had no sales or resale value by the time AMF almost put them out of business.

I wasn't involved with HD at that time ( was riding other stuff). One of the good things that came from AMF was their assembly process - made building a bike must faster. After the buyback it's been all up hill and what a ride! :D I knew I should have bought some stock

Here are more oil filter options for the CRD:

Purolator L25230
Fram PH8316
Wix 51516
SuperTech ST8316 (Walmart house brand)
Motorcraft FL2005
AC PF2221
STP S8316
Mopar 5003558AA (may be other #'s for same filter)

I personally think the best two filters for the money are the Purolator and the Motorcraft. The Motorcraft is particularly well made, and since Purolator was recently sold, the quality may or may not change. The OEM Mopar is currently made by Purolator but that could change. Because they are simply Purolators that are painted a different color, you are wasting your money on them in my opinion. The Motorcrafts are "OEM" filters too and are 1/3 the price at any Advance Auto Parts. The SuperTechs are made by Champion Labs (also make the Mobil 1, STP, and most AC/Delco) and have an unusual internal design that is quite highly rated. I've used them and am pleased with them. Don't let the sub $3 price sway you. I have never used the Wix, but they are known for making very high quality filters, and I would not hesitate to use them either. Lastly, after I learned the internal construction of the Frams, I will never use one an any vehicle again.

Me either I had just left the Beemer's (yes the term "Beemer" is really a motorcycle term) for rice grinders. Last HD I had was about '65 when I went to BMW, last one was an '83 Yamaha that I sold in summer of '86 to a fellow shipmate that had it 2 weeks then spent a year in hospital & rehab, then was medically retired.

The Mopar I bought was clearly marked "made in Italy." Purolator may well make filters for Mopar, I don't know. I don't think the CRD filter is a Purolator unless they have a plant in Italy.

Last time I heard when the local Purolator plant closed they were moving that plant operations over sea's (to Europe?) and another US plant. Like my fuel filter, the OEM oil filter says make in Italy and I just really doubt it is Purolator made.

Also one thing to remember the factory spec's are seldom met by the afternmarket companys who do not want to pay the money for the OEM spec. This can be witnessed in the ISO Test for airfilters used by GM DuraMax Diesel a lot of folks will read this an just total refuse to believe that their aftermarket filter is not as good as OEM filter. So many fall for the sales hype on this stuff it is just down right funny.

:P I had my oil changed yesterday at 500 miles at the dealership, while they did a recall on my new Red Liberty CRD. I am takeing a long trip at the end of the week to Dayton OH. I will change when I get back and I will let you know what my oil looks like. By the way the recall was for F31-Reprogram TCM for Aftermarket Scan Tool. Have a nice day everyone. Jim

All Diesel oil will turn black shortly after the engine is fired. The only true way to tell the condition of the oil on a Diesel is through Oil analysis.
