Guys,
I took my 03 KJ for a walk tonight after work because it has been sitting for over a week now.
As I was driving my Check engin light came on.
Thanks to this FANTASTIC L.O.S.T family, there was a chat about checking error codes with out the computer thing. Well I got an error code of (P0442). So I looked at the link that was given and I came up with this for the code (Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)..

Any one ever have this?
what did you do and what do I need to get?

Jeep Dawg

ALot of times thats what it is. Sometimes its a bad hose on the rear around the front of the gas tank.

Try Beano.   Seams to work on those pesky emission system leaks.

Sorry had to go for the obvious joke.

Ditto on the gas cap. Usually is the result of Vapor Lock. This happens when the cap is not on tight. Check it make sure it’s tight and drive for awhile. The light will reset itself. This may take awhile. I have seen the light stay on as long as a half a tank of fuel.

jokes are always welcome with me, cuz I sure put some out there at times.

The gas cap thing is not the case. I had about a 1/4 tank of gas. Last time I filled up was 2 weeks ago and I had drove the Jeep a few times last week. Plus, when I saw that check engin light come on, I took off the cap and put it back on and clicked it a few times.

it could still be the cap.... my wife called me last week and said the CEL came on... when i got home and checked the code.... same as you, evap system leak....
well, she was the last one to get gas and we had already used more than half a tank since then... sometimes it takes a while to trip the CEL i guess...

i can clear codes with my scanguage tool, so i didn't have to wait for it to clear after tightening the cap, so i don't know how long it takes to reset itself..

you guys are too much. I had a pretty good laugh with thoes remarks.

Well After I saw that light come on lastnight, I had less then a 1/4 tank so I filled it up and made sure the cap was of tightly.
We will see if the error and light goes off in a few days or so.

yea I know man.
I hope the light goes off soon too.
I took it for another walk tonight and it seems to be running fine.
I have 84K plus on it and it runs just like the first day I picked her out at the meat market.

well just to let u know the quickest way to find an evaporative emision leak is to jack up the jeep and run a LIGHTER along the fuel lines from the engine to the gas tank..........lol

THIS IS A JOKE, BY NO MEANS PUT FIRE NEAR THE FUEL LINES

Thats too funny.
In all honesty gone_jeepin,
That would be a fast way to tell. LMAO
I could do that and if I find the leak, I could call the insurence company and say we had jewish lightning and it hit my KJ
