how do you mount that roof rack onto factory renegade roof rails? i know that they are not very strong, so should i just forget about it, or take off the factory renegade roof rails and bolt on some think tubing?

You have to remember the roof racks are rated for the weight, plus the anticipated worst wind resistance the rack will be subjected to at highway speeds. If you have a lower, more condensed load, it makes a difference in what you can carry safely.

Roof rack weights are calculated using for active loads (moving). The Rengade is only rated for 65 lbs because the engineers thought that the Renny would be chosen most as the model for offroad. Offroad as we all know, can experience greater load forces than on road. I can stand on my Surco Rack, at 225lbs. Static loads on any car are much greater .

Does anyone have or know where to get a basket that is small enough to fit into the rails. I would like a basket but I think if I get a lift and a basket it will not fit in the garage

Yip it sure is the best iv had this far. Its a locally made rack and exported all over the world.
The one i have as you can see runs the whole length of the roof, the load bars are removed and an aluminum u rail is installed so the the weight is even over the A, B, C and D supports.

There are shorter ones available that fit on to the standard rails and they work well, but you will be limited to the standard caring capacity.

OK dont fall fall off you chair when you reads this!
The rack and new u rails, 1x high lift jack, 1x spade and 1x axe brackets, 2x gerry can holders (only one showen), 2x gas bottles holders and a side awning for shade came to about $1200.00 (im sure it will work out a lot less in the States) well spent money. I carried that wieght 9500km through Mozambique on the worst roads you can think of and i came back with not even a lose bolt!

I gave them a call and You can get them in the states from the following place.

Yes, I ordered it from Summit Racing. I went with the 45x60 and also got the hi-lift mount, axe/shovel mount and light mount for rear lights.

Boy is Summit Racing quick. I placed my order yesterday with regular ground shipping and it arrived today! :D :D :D

Thanks Jason for posting your pictures on how you mounted yours. I will be doing the same.

Thanks,
Ken

I took off my Renegade roof basket to put on the Surco. I believe there are some that are small enough to fit inside the Renegade roof basket.
Do a search, I know I have seem some picks on here of people that have done it.
