It is a Landlord warning device. It tells you when they approach your place so you can hide from their eviction notice.

Actually, it is a console that tells you:
1. Your tire pressure
2. Mpg
3. Miles traveled
4. Miles left in your current tank
5. Outside temperature
6. Compass
7. How many miles till your next service
8. How long your vehicle has been running.

not only that... there is much more to it...
you can program up to 3 codes to open garage doors
oil change warnings
door lock options
inside light options
and much more - but those plus the ones named above are all in the EVIC

Now... that you can install one, I highly doubt it - you can install it and use some of the features but not all of them - this is what I think - what it is a reality it might be different

you can most definately add one...i added an evic from an '04 to my 05. here's the link to the page most people seem to reference when doing their install:
http://theblakbox.com/lost/evic/

Finding an evic may be a bit difficult, ideally you'd want one from an '04 which would give you all the features listed above with the least amount of hassle. Anything before, and the temperature will not work; and at the very least, the dome light wiring changed in the '05. If you would like the tire pressure monitor to work, you would need to also get your hands on the sensors, then have tire shop mount them. There are only 4 wires to run, 1 ground, one to the fuse box and two need to be soldered in place. I spent the most time carefully cutting the headliner for the console.

Its all in link in greater and more accurate detail. There are also a few little tricks i found that aren't covered in the aricle...like how you can use any powerful enough magnet to train the sensors, not just the training tool.

You won't be able to get the tire pressure readings with the "POST" installed EVIC. You have to get the proper wheel sensors for it to work.

Since nobody else said it already, here's what the acronym stands for:

EVIC = Electronic Vehicle Information Computer (or something like that)

Another good point...i almost made this expensive mistake until i found this thread on JU.
The part number for the '04 sensors are 52088990AC, for the '05 and '06 it's 56053030AB and they are not interchangable. I went about a month between when i installed the evic and the sensors mounted on the rims. In that month every time i started the car the evic gave me a warning chiime and displayed a message saying something like tire pressure low/sensor missing.

The EVIC and the OTIS are the 2 diff. computers that Chrysler puts in various vehicles. Both offerind display of information fed from the cars computer like MPG, Odometer, Travel Time, Compass, and Temperature. The EVIC offers some additional readouts like a configurable Time to Service (ie. Oil Change), and in some models Tire Pressure.

Do you have the vehicle computer that comes with the Liberty? The Liberty comes with an OTIS (Vs. the EVIC that Chrysler puts in variouos other vehicles). If so then you're probably 90% there. I upgraded my OTIS to an EVIC because the display is pixellated with a much higher resolution, and looks much nicer. But, it's kind of a shot in the dark if the additional features from an EVIC will work with your Liberty's computer. As for me, all the additional features show up in the display fine, but when you try to set any of them on/off there is no real affect on the vehicle.

For example, the EVIC will let you set the option of Horn Churp on keyless lock. I set the value to on/off and nothing really changes, my Horn Churp is always enabled. But, it does look nicer.

Also, newer year EVIC's do not have the Instant MPG as the older ones and the OTIS did. So if that's of value then you need to look for certain year's EVICs.

But, you can most certainly do a complete computer install if you don't currently have one. It's not a simple task, but very doable.... expecially if you buy the harness from the dealership. Cutting the headliner is probably the hardest part.

Gimme a PM if you have any specific questions.

Brandon

Correction. *some* Libertys come with an OTIS, some with an EVIC. I believe it was the 2002-2003 models that came with OTIS, and 2004-2006 or so with EVIC, but I'm not certain. In any case, my 2005 came with an EVIC. It's a pixel-based display and has all the features you mention.

It depends on the year. If you get an OTIS/EVIC that matches the year of the liberty, those features will work. If the year doesn't match, it's anyones guess. The keyless entry options, etc all work on my EVIC. I've noticed that it's almost the exact same computer that is in the grand cherokees, except their display is on the instrument cluster, wheras the liberty is overhead.

My 2005 EVIC has an MPG display.

I just bought my KJ because it drove, felt and looked the best of all the SUV's we were test driving. I had no idea that I would become so involved with mod's. What an evil place this is!!
Anyway, I don't have an evic but now I HAVE to have one. I looked under my hood between the radiator and grill. There is the temperature gauge thingy with a wire hooked to it that goes all the way around the drivers side and disappears....I thought I read somewhere that no 05 sports came with an EVIC. I can still install one, correct? I do have keyless entry and fog lights. I just want to be sure because of what I am reading an EVIC is pretty hard to find. Thanks.

Hi, I happen to be browsing around the forums and found this VERY INTERESTING statement you made. I quoted it above. My ISSUE is I got a '04 EVIC for my '06 Liberty. And besides just finding out I got the wrong TPMS sensors, my Dome Light on the console is disconnected, because I fear it will run down the battery. The connector is the same, but the '06 light is a different size and uses 212 bulbs. The '04 EVIC uses the 192/168 types of bulbs and they draw 1/2 the current. I've tried doubling the 192 bulbs up, 4ohm resistors in parallel and even putting a 212 bulb in parallel with the 192....just to see if the circuit is 'looking' for a drawn of xxx amps. What happens is the EVIC Dome light bulbs are off when the door is opened and then after the door is closed and 30 secs, the back bulbs dims to abt 1/3 brightness and the 2 front bulbs come on at about the same brightness. Is there a way to get the 192 bulbs in the '04 dome light to work in the new '06 Liberty ?? The EVIC works FLAWLESS. It's the Dome light thats messed up. I was bitting my nails for the EVIC....

Ok, all that light stuff went way over my head.

My problem was basically when the dome lights were supposed to be on, they were off, and vice versa. I believe all i did was cut the middle wire to get the dome light to work better, it's been about a year so i don't remember exactly. I'd go take a look, but after i added an auto-dim mirror, i wrapped everything up in about half a roll of electrical tape. It's not a perfect solution, i don't think they go on when the driver door opens, but otherwise they seem to be working as they should. You could probably use some alligator clips and a three pin fan connector from a computer fan to rig up a temporary connection between the evic lamps and power connector to do some testing.

I have an '05, and this is what the fsm has for the overhead wire pinouts:

and the overhead wire pinouts for an '04:

I didn't know that any Liberties came with an EVIC. I thought that an OTIS was the only option available. Thanks, and I agree, I wasn't too clear that the OTIS was the only option available for Liberties . . . when I bought which is a 2002.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think it is still kind of a crap-shoot. I've heard stories of how before 2003 (or could be 2004) that all EVIC from Grand Cherokee's were compatible with Liberties . . . which is what i currently have. But, alas it is not 100% compatible when it comes to programming options on the Vehicle via the EVIC. Note, though that I can program some of them via the Keyless remote however.

My 2005 EVIC has an MPG display.

I was specific here when I mentioned INSTANT MPG . . . as opposed to AVERAGE MPG. There are 2 different MPG readouts on my OTIS (before) and EVIC (now).
