Just got a check engine light Monday, been in the shop since first thing Tues. with no repairs in sight. Throwing a EGR and Turbo overboost codes and the shop boys are in a daze, as noted before on this board. Made a few suggestions that I'd do if I was at work, working on someone else's truck, but it didn't seem to put a fire under them. They seem to want the codes to go away without doing anything. :( They gave me a new Pontiac Vibe as a loner, man what a piece compared to the CRD.

About 5500 miles, ran like a dream when I sent it in. Just wanted to see what was up.

Ahhh.. the codes of a failing EGR. I had those exact codes.
Most techs do not have any experience with the crd yet. So he will call into there Tech Support.

First step for me was, a flash of the PCM.
Second, they bought me a new air filter.
Then DM finally gave in and gave permission to replace the EGR. It took about 1 week to get the part only because DM wouldnt send it for some reason. When the tech got the part and saw where it was, i was told he just sat there and cussed for a while. Replacement only took like 4 hours.

But after he was done, the CRD ran much better than when it was new.

Hmm - did MPG suffer with a bad EGR? Did that code show up through the odometer, or only through a reader?

Thanks,

-Vic

Well, I dont know if the MPG suffered, because that darn light was on since the first week I bought it. I was averaging about 24-25 all around with the bad EGR, and this tank will be my first fill up with the new EGR. Will be intersting to see how the mpg is now.

The codes did show up through the odometer and a code reader.

Well I got the CRD back today, took them 3 days to flash the new software in and find out that some of the sensors were scaling wrong and there was nothing wrong with the rig. Sometimes I wish I got 3 days to putter about, I'm lucky if I get an hour.

My dealer did the same thing. Updated the software and cleared the codes out. Yet as I was talking to the service manager for about 10 minutes the CEL went right back on..

Danno,
We must be born under the same sign, my light came back on Friday morning. Going back in when I can get it there. I'm taking a copy of all above posts with me. Thanks.
