I was going to leave for work this morning and the Jeep wouldn't start. When I turn the key there is a loud clicling noise but it isn't even trying to turnover. I don't think it is the battery as it is less than a year old. I am thinking starter or alternator. Any thoughts?

Could be something as simple as a bad connection on your battery terminal. I would say get a jump hopefully it will run until you can get it to someplace like autozone where they will do a free charging system analysis and should be able to pinpoint the problem. Could be a bad battery (have had them die in less than a month) bad alternator, starter solenoid, or lots of little things.

it's probably the battery. That clicking sound is an indication of low voltage to the starter. If it were the alternator you would probably have noticed something before now. Check the battery terminals for corrosion.

It was the battery. It was actually 2 years old almost to the day but the dealership put a new one in at no charge. I guess I should pick up a few extra of these and keep them in my spare battery drawer with the Duracell double A's. Just in case. Thanks for the help.

same thing happened to me, old dealership batteries suck! and my brother continues to have that problem, he wont listen to me sayin that something he put in wasnt grounded right. so instead he replaces his battery every 8-10 months.
