I just read in blue oval news.com that daimler isn't ruling out spinning chrysler off because of decreasing sells and raising cost of union contracts, such as retiree benifits. This could get interesting down the line. I know ford was looking for a partner, they even talked with GM. Jeep sure has a hard time finding a perminate home since willy's pwned them.

Are you talking about the three brands of Chrysler or is it just the name plate Chrysler? Because as a whole, the three Chrysler brands have been faring the best out of any of the American brands.

There was rumour of this happening floating all over the place yesterday, but I really doubt it'll come true.

Statement From DaimlerChrysler Regarding Speculation on the Potential Sale of Chrysler Group
Wednesday October 25, 6:44 pm ET

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., STUTTGART, Germany, Oct. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Statement attributable to Hartmut Schick, Senior Vice President - Corporate Communications, DaimlerChrysler AG:

DaimlerChrysler reaffirms its previous statements made to the media that there are no plans to sell Chrysler Group. During today's third-quarter earnings analyst/media conference call, the company appropriately chose not to add to the speculation regarding this topic. However, the resulting coverage and comments made it clear that this "not-for-sale" statement needed to be reaffirmed.

Sales are down for a number of reasons. Primarily since the neon was dropped, it hasn't been fully replaced yet since the caliber isn't as popular. The neon while cheap and old was the top seller in numbers. So over all the sales are down do to total units.

Actually Chrysler's sales are down this quarter. MB's are up... But most people point to the general population switch from Trucks / SUV's to more effcient vehicles.

I like the format now as well... especially if Chrsyler will continue to get the "E" class chassis leftovers for the LX/LY cars.

Sales are down slightly but we are still leading the pack. Our dealership is very small and we out sell Brand X dealers 4 times our size month after month. Let's face it, Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep are the only brands out there doing anything exciting. Nothing GM has is getting much attention. The Duramax did help them but now they are having issues with it. Ford had the Mustang but now they are swamped with buy backs from unresolved warranty issues. Toyota has the FJ Cruiser, which is sort of interesting but it's a love it or hate it thing. The other Japanese manufactures are producing the same old cookie cut crap. Mercedes may be selling well, but they are limited by price and market so I think DCX will keep their bread and butter brands for the foreseeable future. Especially with so much buzz about all the new models like the Nitro, Caliber, Compass, '07 Wrangler, new Liberty, Patriot, etc. While other manufacturers are scaling back and scrambling to save money, we are expanding the product lines. I doubt very seriously if DCX will split off anything unless it is one of the heavy truck manufacturers like Freightliner.

I do agree that DCX (chrysler branded) vehicles are selling better than others divisions but what their cars lack is a higher MPG rating to draw in more of the 'green' crowd. Their cars look great, beat the rivials in quality but just seem to be less effiecent as a whole.

Cars Chrysler has been selling like hotcakes:

300 series (including the C)
2007 Sebring (I hope - i put 3.5 years into that program)

Ford has:

Fusion
2007 Edge (will sell well)
Mustang (almost a hotcake)

Chevy has:
.... at least the impala looks nice?
They are still leaning on restyled large pickup trucks.

Ford couldn't save its own butt even during the years when consumers were flushed with money. I doubt they will do any better during the next few years when the meltdown comes.

I will be supremely disappointed in DC if they ever do that. Just because Zetsche (sp?) thinks his MB is better. I mean seriously, think about how many Jeeps you see driving around compared to Benzes. I'm in high school and theres at least five jeeps in my parking lot alone (excluding GCs I havent counted those).

I don't think it has anything to do with lines being dropped. Mainly it has to to with the fact that American cars (for the most part), suck compared to german and japanese cars. American companies have possibly the most retarded labor agreements that business could possibly offer. Also, American cars are less reliable and are lower quality in general. That being said, the chrysler group is fairing the best out of all the american car companies (probably because it is owned by daimler).

if this doesnt make sense just think of drinks eh

No offense, but I still I think the whole "american cars are crappy" is an unfair stereotype formed by people who think that because a vehicle is more expensive it must be built better. Personally, my family has owned domestics and foreigns and I will always stick with domestics. My parents were lookin at a Mercedes ML a few years back and the build quality of the interior was absolute crap for the price range. Same with Nissan. And I still think Toyota's interior is nothing to write home about. I will agree about the labor unions being all messed up though.

Well in the case of german cars I think you're right, they are of higher quality because they cost more. With japanese cars, however, that's not the case. As much as I hate them (japanese cars), they are simply more reliable than American cars and last for much longer periods of time.

Another reason that I think Chrysler is fairing the best out of all of the American manufacturers is that they do have the best labor agreements out of the three major players. Ford and GM are going to have to do some serious corporate "dancing" if they want to have a chance in the long run.

I don't know where that comes from, I've owned fords and jeep my whole life and have yet to walk, or had any major repairs or problems. I've put a lot of miles on them, the 4.0 I-6 is a 300,000 mile motor, I've run many fords and jeeps to 200,000 without sneezing. There's a guy on the ranger forum that has 350,000 miles on his 1st generation ranger 2.3 4 cylinder and hasn't overhauled it yet, but it needs it now. I wheel with japanese 4x4's and they get stuck and break like everybody else, and thier new trucks are butt ugly (toyota) Last report, fords sales were up 4.7%, the other 2 were down over 3%. One of chryslers problems is they want to put a hemie in everything with gas at 3.00$ a gallon. Jeep is thier bright spot, Jeep has , or had 4 of it's 6 vehicles available with a 4 cylinder, the tj, kj, compass, and patroit, I know we temperarily lost the kj and wrangler, but hpefully we'll get a new diesel option in the future for both or the return of the gas 4 banger. I've owned jeeps that were willy's, kaiser, amc, and chrysler, loosing daimler dosn'e excite me, I'm use to it. Europe donsn't like america anyway, so I'm sure chyrsler isn't getting a fair shake from the germans, jeep is better off without them. Ford and chyrsler together would be a global powerhouse, as that would include, ford, chrysler, mercury, dodge, linclon, jeep, mazda, land rover, jag, vovlo and austin martin, "o"and possably parts of mits. It's not like they haven't done it before, the Dodge brother got thier start building engines for Henery Ford. Talk about an offroad line up, we'ld get the jeeps, the defender 90 and the rest of the land rovers + ford is bringing the bronco back, not like the concept, but a true offroad capable vehicle worthy of the bronco name like the first generation ones 66-77. You make think being in bed with the germans is great, but I think ford and chyrsler together would be awesome and unstopable, wishfull thinking I know, but it doesn't hurt to dream !!!!!!!!

Where is that info from? If true and they make it sweet, and w/ a removable top, I might have to rethink getting a JK. The EB's have always been my favorite vehicles.

"O' and as far as chyrsler having the best labor agreement of the 3, the article says they have the worst, that the union gave no concesions in thier last contract where as gm and ford did, thats one of the reasons daimler is in a snit, 1,400.00 dollars from each vehicle goes to retiree upkeep, health and pension plans. You guy's can read the whole article for yourselfs at www.blueovalnews.com. It will give you alot more of the details than I have.

Have you ever driven a car built on the picific rim? They are flimsy and thinly built... The American OEM's might be down, but they are not out.
