 Post subject: Double Cardinal Joint Install - **FINISHED** - pics

Picked up the 1st of the parts, well, one of only 2 parts needed in this entire operation :) !!

Going to my mates TJM Megastore on Saturday morning to show him. He's the one that's going to weld this DC Joint to my T'case Output Shaft. He is also a Jeep nut and has a fullon TJ, ironicly, one that I sold him when I used to work for Jeep Australia !!

Hardy Spicer are going to make up a new reverse driveshaft for my KJ at the same time.
This puts the slip joint down closer to the diff, and fully serviceable.

The whole setup will look no real different to the Short Shaft Slip Yoke Eliminator Kits you can buy for the TJ's ect.....
The guys from Hary Spicer (no relation to Dana Spicer) are going to put in beefier H/D Uni's though, and the best part is, they have a grease nipple (zirk?) in them for premium lubing :lol:

This allows me to get up that extra 1.5"s from where I am now, without any driveshaft vibration problems. Also, i'm doing this in preperation for something else planned....long term of course :wink: but I cant get too excited about that just yet :( !

The yoke is from the H2, the joint look the same.

Al, it wont look like yours, but the 2nd one on JJsKJ's wifes car :P!

THe Cardinal will be welded straight onto the output shaft, and the slip joint down the bottom closest to the diff as per that great pic!

Riteo, I swapped the Double Cardinal Joint from those photo's to a more beffier one. The Uni's in that last one were'nt upto the job, well.......they were its just I wanted bomb proof - so I got it.

I've just taken off the rear prop shaft & the KJ's sitting in the driveway - If some one was ever going to try and steal my KJ, tonights the night i'd love to see it happen :P! rotfl!!!

anyway, here's the bits sitting on the garage floor. I've placed the DC joint in the approx position of its projected final resting place. !/2 way between the 2 new joints. These Uni's are 1350's I believe, more than adequate as the Driveline shop uses them for drag cars and big HP applications with no breakages ever recorded - driveshaft tubes split in 2 and twisted like a Pretzel, but never a Uni/DC Joint failure.........what a relief :P!!
Tomorrow afternoon i'll have it all back in - takes 5 mins tops........too easy.......

Everything went smoothly, for once ;)

I ended up taking the Driveshaft to a more reputable company that just happened to be 10 mins from work rather than 35mins!

I cant recommend the guys at Driveline Services any higher, I know for you guys & gals in the States that might not mean much, but I was blown away by they're willingness to do the job, service and quite amazingly, price ! lol!

There was a little hick up when the guys finally saw the shaft and DC joint sitting next to each other. They had'nt planned on a cut'n'shut operation for this and thought it would be relatively quick. Oh well, goof thing they are a fully fleged machine shop. We couldnt use the original slip yoke and had to bin it in favour of a completely custom spun up slip joint with flange end. They made it 5mm longer just in case.

The stock harmonic balancer is unbelievably heavy - it feels like lead, the new complete shaft is definately lighter too, good for spinning mass.

It fit like a taylored glove and drives beautifully. At the moment i've only got my stock rear springs in so there isnt really any vibration at the moment (new Fr & Re custom coils arrive Monday) so I cant comment to strongly on how much better it is, but I know its is ;)

Didnt realise this till I posted but you can also see the exhaust mod/change I did a few weeks back. The new tubes are above the chassis line and we also managed to get the cat up a bit higher in the process. The ONLY reason for thise mod was clearance. The noise change is minimal - un-noticable in the car but slight increase in noise outside, put it this was, the missus never noticed :P!!

Still a slip yoke though huh? So why didn't you just go to a SYE? (slip yoke eliminator)

OT, but what mufflers are you running?

Cause nobody carries them here in OZ (as far as i'm aware) and even if so, it would have cost somewhere around $1850 installed - my version cost me $600 and works exactly the same :) (thats Australian $$$ by the way :P! )

I think they were called Mercury ? They're just 2 torpedos - straight through, sounds nice & very subtle.
