does anyone know or have photos of the steps involved to remove the factory roof rack rails? there do not appear to be any exposed bolts - and before i start prying at the plastic cover and breaking something - i'd love to see if someone else can point me in the right direction. i'm looking to fab up a mount that will allow me to mount a yakima cross bar tower directly to the point where the factory rack mounts. i would simply use the yakima lock jaw towers that clamp to the factory rails - but i've got a clearance issue in my garage and i need to stay as low as possible. plus - from what i hear the factory rack rails are pretty wimpy.

any help would be most appreciated.

thanks,

brian

The plastic covers on the rails (where they mount to the roof) can be pryed apart to expose the bolts that mount the rails to the roof. The cover section that would face outward from the vehicle (you would be looking at it when standing from the side) pry off the rails. It is eaiser to remove the front ones with the door open so the rubber gasket releases.
The plastic covers use two metal clips inside for most of the tension.

Good luck.

Ignore the wiring stuff. But it's a good picture of the inside of the end caps.

It came in handy for me in the past when I was trying to get my rack built.

Just FYI... That's not my picture. I got it from another useful soul a long time ago but acn't remember who.
