transmission recall

I went in Friday and had them order the parts for the recall. Service guy was surprised that I knew about about the recall since it came out that day and I came in at 8:30 am. I entered my vin number at the jeep site and it was listed for my 05.

Are you saying that the trannies on the Diesel Liberties are now on recall?

Yes what are you talking about? Have the problems been elevated from TSB to recall (beyond software).

Yes they have. Just checked my VIN and there it is. They mention that one of things that they do is reduce engine toque! That rots! Obviously that transmission ain't up to the low-RPM torque of the diesel. So what's Chrysler's fix? Turn down the power volume... Great. Just great. The thing already has a soft-hit programmed into it at take-off (that many think is turbo-lag - just my opinion) - I can't wait to see how they neuter it now. They install a new torque converter and start in on the reprogramming. Aw heck, I'll just copy and paste:

to enhance torque converter and transmission durability. The work will take about 5½
hours to complete. If testing indicates the transmission has been damaged, another
hour will be required. However, additional time may be necessary depending on how
dealer appointments are scheduled and processed.

What you must do...

Simply contact your dealer right away to schedule a service appointment. Ask the
dealer to hold the part for your vehicle or to order it before your appointment.
Remember to bring this letter with you to your dealer.

Just spoke to DC and YES WE ARE going to loose Power and TQ!!! ok now what ...Geez I wish I kept my Jetta for this poop Box!!!

I don't know what your built date is for your CRD, but a large numer are already de-tuned and most folks don't notice the difference. Where is the cut-off date or reasons why, I don't know?

In addition, all 2005/6 models that have had a reflash starting with the 18-008-06 and 18-009-06 series, probably have already been de-tuned, as well as the 18-023-06 and the F31 flashes ( which I think are the same).

Mine is definitely de-tuned, but it appears only at the shift points as in general, it still flat out hauls. We should all switch to this discussion instead of running two parallel discussions:

Like I said in another thread, that's what they did with the Lightnings and the massive amount of torque they made. At the shift points it has a 'torque reduction' to extend the life of the transmission.

I had my '05 in for a CEL due to Mass Air Flow and the service writer had them do a ball joint replacement.

The tech calls back saying that after changing the air filter the car hardly runs!

Anyway, the tech went through all that was required to fix the tranny.

I am not excited at all about the power reduction.

I am got to get rid of this sensored word Child !!! VW will have an SUV in less than a year and look @ it in Car and Driver 2.0 TDI ,SCREW DC this is the worst Diesel I have ever had and So sorry I got it ! POS!!!!!!

After having the 18-009-06 flash, I did not have any loss of power. It was a different flash where noticeable loss of low end grunt and a high revving shift pattern occurred. I was very pleased with both the engine and tranny shifting after 18-009-06, but not the last flash (which did not have any known TSB number scheme on it).
However, the 18-009-06 did not remediate the tranny shudder.

How many of the CRD members DO have problems and YEA! not just for the most part,IT IS A POS LEMON! and I just put lemons all over the JEEP and a big DON'T buy a JEEP.

I've had problems with every vehicle I have owned ... thats pretty much part of owning anything mechanical ... The CRD for me has been good for the most part ... I do feel bad you got a lemon ... but then again ... most people who bought one have tended to keep it .. unless it had a lot of problems ...

VW will sell diesel-powered Tiguan for U.S.

Volkswagen plans to sell the new Tiguan small SUV with a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine in all 50 states, probably by late next year.

That will give Volkswagen an exclusive. No other small SUVs are available in the United States with a diesel engine, which usually offers a fuel economy gain of 30 percent over a gasoline engine.

The Chrysler group's Jeep brand dropped the diesel option from the Liberty this year, and no other automakers have announced plans for a diesel in a small SUV.

VW unveiled a concept version of the 2008 Tiguan TDi last week at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The engine is the next generation of VW's long-running diesels and features a new common-rail, high-pressure fuel-injection system and several emissions components that use Bluetec technology.

Bluetec is a collection of diesel emissions components developed by Mercedes-Benz and its suppliers that also is going to be used by Volkswagen and Audi. The Tiguan won't use the urea injection system to clean up oxides of nitrogen, or NOx. That system will be used on V-6 and larger engines, according to Volkswagen.

Instead, the Tiguan will use an NOx storage catalytic converter, particulate filter and other components to reduce emissions.

Volkswagen also plans to offer the Tiguan with a gasoline engine. VW spokesman Steve Keyes said the gasoline engine will arrive next fall, followed by the diesel.

VW did not announce prices or technical specifications.

Most on here don't have the problem with thier trans. I don't think degrading the CRD and promoting VW will not help those having problems or you either. OK to vent if you have to but many of us love our CRD.

I have had some problems with my CRD but over all I do love it. If you don't like yours just sell, or trade it and go on to another forum.

That Tiguan can't possibly be 4x4, off-road capable. Look at the huge rims and thin tires. Its a bling bling mobile for assaulting malls, not trails (or hurricane ravaged neighborhoods.). The diesel is nice, but my reason for getting one is mostly practical and utilitarian. The Tiguan doesn't appear to have much of that.

Hopefully, the unlimited wrangler concept shown recently will translate fairly intact to the dealer showroom. Pack it with a diesel and that will be my next vehicle after the Liberty extended warranty expires.
