Yesterday I picked up my 06 Liberty after the second torque converter replacement. The first went at about 7,500 miles. Basically I had shuddering at around 45mph and the car would shift all over the place between 35mph and 55mph. That torque converter lasted about 3,000 miles and now they replaced the torque converter again along with the input shaft. I know many of you have had TC problems with your CRD Libby's, but has anybody experienced these types of problems with a gas model? Unfortuantly I don't think my problem is yet resolved. I may need to negotiate a replacement transmission or vehicle at some point.

My 06 Liberty is going in this Friday for its 3rd Torque Converter at 13,000 miles. Anybody else heard of any problems with the transmission that would lead to such a habitual problem? The 2nd Torque Converter also included a new input shaft assembly. Apparently the parts were backordered due several Liberty's awaiting the same part.

Let me know if you have had a similar experience.

No, my 2002 Liberty 4X4 Limited with the 45RFE is doing great at 54K miles. No shudder, no flashes, not even a single flash, no problems, no shifting issues at all. My 05 CRD - different story - it is on its 2nd TC, soon to be 3rd when the latest recall is performed. While I can see the diesel models having issues due to using a gas engine tc on a diesel, I can't see any valid reason for the V6 equipped Libby's to have this problem. There is a non-valid reason however.

DC is under tremendous financial pressure, expecting to lose 1.5 Billion on their 06 fiscal year. The pressure to reduce parts cost must be enormous and I now believe that they are cost cutting everywhere - including TC's and other areas where customers can only trust them to use the right quality part. I have parked my 02 Liberty side by side with my 05 and compared them closely. Door rubber seals are half the size of the 02, rear trailing suspension arms are half the size, seats are nowhere close to the quality of the 02 and both are Limited models with the same equipment, except for the side airbags on the 05. They seem to have cut cost wherever they could conceivably save a nickel.

You're not alone - the new Dodge variant of the 08 Liberty, the Nitro had barely hit the dealer lots before a TSB was issued on TC problems and a new flash has been issued. CRD owner are so familiar with this flash that some of us now call it the flash of the week, flash de jour, bandaid flash, or flash of the month club, simply because it does not fix the problem and requires multiple return dealer visits. It's a subscription service you don't want.

I wish I had a better answer for you - but after close to 2 years of dealing with flashes (8 to date, but not all for the tranny) my 05 still isn't right and currently has 3 open recalls on it. If you take it in and they fix it right the first time, you'll be doing well - if it still isn't right, you could be in for quite a series of return visits.

Good luck.

My 07 would lock and unlock constantly between 42-47 mph in OD. Now having 1600 miles on it, it's doing better (albeit still locking too early for my liking). Oh well, I burn up the Torque Converter, DC replaces it until a flash comes out to fix it. I think mine is different though as I've gathered the 07s got electronic throttle control ("drive by wire") so...there may be some differences there.

EDIT: Why was/is this in the CRD forum if it's for gas vehicles?
