I wonder if Jackson has compassion for the tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians killed by US forces as a response to 9/11.

That one hurt me as I read all of the posts. I am going to leave it at that since I enjoy the LOST community and wish to stay on this forum.

As for what I was doing well I had just gotten out of the ARMY (where I was a United States Soldier one of the people that was payed to kill "the tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians" ) and was contracting for the Department Of Defense. At the time of the ATTACKS ON U.S. SOIL I was working on a APC track vehicle.

Redneck Ron - I was awakened early that morning by a phone call from a former girlfriend living back east (I was in L.A.) who remembered that I had served in the Marines in Lebannon (among many places) in the '80s and remembered too my political passions. She had instinctively called me to commisserate after years of no contact. I flipped on the tv and we watched the same network together and talked for hours. My immediate emmotional reaction was, "Oh my god, there has to be 10 or 15 thousand people in those things". I had spent a LOT of time in NYC. I have friends who lived in Manhattan and in Queens. I started calling friends and feel I'm blessed to be able to say none of my friends were anywhere near that part of the island.

Camp Namutoni, Etosha Park, Namibia, Africa.

It was later in the evening when someone from my safari group mentioned they had heard something. Later heard some people walking around the camp talking about it. The reports were vague and uncertain at best, people were catching tidbits on the radio. I was hearing about events in LA, Texas, Chicago, Kansas as well as DC and NYC. It was spooky the way people talked and were in shock at some level yet they wouldn't stop and talk because the Rhinos were at the water hole. The next morning we were up early and out on safari just like everyother day.

In this area print media is rare and papers are weeklies. The news they cover are usually several weeks old. It was over a week before I got someplace that was more developed. Even then it was almost impossible to get any news, Namibia is a former German colony so most locals and visitors speak some Germanic variant.

By the time I got back to the US they were no longer playing any of the video or showing many photos. The news was no longer covering what, they were on to who.

On the way back we had a refueling stop at an Island off of Africa (I think it was one of the Cape Verde Isles). When we landed the plan was surrounded by military vehicles with mounted machine guns and armed troops on foot. Tons more security there for a fuel stop than here in the US. The plane was so empty everyone had a section of seats to themselves.

Boy this thread is really sad. No strike that - Seth, you are really sad.

Ron - I appreciate the post - it made me stop and remember...

I was at work (in NH) - it came on the radio. We were glued to the radio, then to the TV down in the cafeteria. Believe it or not, we had a company (Red Cross) blood drive scheduled for that same day. It was an internal thing only - but word soon spread as it was the only drive in the State that day...people just stopped by and said; "I heard there's a blood drive here?" We had to turn many away because they only brought supplies for so many donations...I gave blood...and I cried a lot.

I was home (Westcheter, NY) preparing for a job interview. GF calls (works about 20 blocks from Trade Center) and says a plane hit, turn on TV. My thought was a small plane screwed up. When we saw 2nd plane hit I told her to get out of the city. 1 mistake possible. 2 hits, an attack. She walked over the 59th St Bridge w/ about 5,000 other people as all public transportation was shut down.

When I got to the job interview couple hrs later I was told that the DM who was gonna give me the 2nd interview the next day was on the PA plane...

Got the job and a year later left it to join Dept of Homeland Security supervising airports. Funny how life turns.... Now they are cycling 1,000 of us through NO to help with recovery efforts. Waiting my turn.

I was at work,(Stouffer's) the plant manager shut us down and called us to meet in the cafe, they set up a tv and let us watch just before the second plane hit. he then shut it off and asked for a moment of silence so those who wanted to pray could then he said if wanted to go home we could. my brother-in- law worked in the WTC 80 something floor, I hauled stupid home tried calling sister, couldn't get thru, then mom called, said my brother-in-law stayed home sick, (2nd time in his carerr) He lost many friends and collueges that day even his rivals. the next day they hade a blood drive at my work. they invited employees from neihboring factorys. about 1000 of us proudly donated! since then i donate every six months.

9/11 We will never forget!

I was getting ready to go to work (as a tank mechanic, US Army, Fort Carson, CO) and turned on the news. As soon as the second plane hit the tower, I called my folks, told them to turn on the news and that I didn't have time to explain why, and raced out the door. I made it onto post just as they were locking it down. One of the guys had thought far enough ahead to bring in a small portable TV. No work got done that day. The lines to get onto post that day were 7 to 12 hours long. The next day, we were told to stay at home next to the phone 'just in case.' I don't remember how long afterwards (the next day or maybe a couple of days later), I saw a commercial jet making its approach into Colorado Springs Airport. I pointed it out and half the people in the building came out to watch it.

Now I'm flying reconnaissance helicopters over Iraq for the Army. Unless you've been over here (in Iraq), please refrain from trying to tell me we are killing thousands of Iraqis over here. Al Queda in Iraq (yes, part of the same group that attacked the US) is claiming responsibility for most of the attacks over here. These people are generally not Iraqi but foreign nationals. The majority of the Iraqis here are happy to see us. The Iraqi Army, the Iraqi Border Police, and the Iraq Police are gradually taking the lead in all operations here but, they will generally admit they aren't ready for us to leave yet. Since I was not/am not privy to all the intelligence data the president had/has, I will not comment on the decision to come over here in the first place. I will just continue to do what I swore to do the day I raised my right hand.

Again with the personal attacks in place of talking points on subject. Well, NHLiberty, you know what I think is sad? I think it's sad that you needed a thread on a bulletin board on the internet to be stopped and reminded.

Well written, KW AV8R.

I was in Camp Casey, Korea. My mechanized infantry company was scheduled to take a contingency mission for DMZ coverage on the 14th, so needless to say, our mindset switched from "routine" to "extreme caution." I was just a young platoon leader, so my eyes had a long way to open up.

I got up early that day, around 7:00 CST. I got onto the computer that morning and saw on the main page of Yahoo "Plane flies into WTC in NYC." I didn't think anything of it, to tell you the truth. The accident with the man flying into the Empire State Building ran through my head. I had no idea the magnitude. A few minutes later, my Grandma called my Mom to tell her to turn on the TV. Right as we turned it on, the second plane flew in. I didn't really know how to process what I just saw. It literally took me about 30 seconds to process it. After that, everything went nuts. A bit later, we got word of a plane hitting the Pentagon. Then, we heard about a bomb going off at the White House (which, fortunately, was untrue). Finally, the plane in PA. I'll never forget where I was that morning and how it all unfolded, nor will I forget the chaos, yet unnatural unity, in America.

Also, this is all I will say about it, but: it is extremely asinine to use 9/11 as an excuse to Iraq.

I think we should all agree to disagree because you would never convince me my point of view is wrong nor would I be able to convince you my point of view is correct . This isn't the forum for politics.

Our military is fantastic. Makes me proud to be an American. Seriously.

I hope my sons are never called upon to risk their lives to protect our liberties, but I'll be damned proud if they are, if they serve as honorably as the guys that are doing it now.

GROUP HUG!!!

Remember the innocent people that died that day, in your own way, but leave your political and religious views out of this post.

Well,

My morning started out the same as most. My Wife does alot of traveling and happened to be on a plane leaving NY that morning. I was doing my normal routine of getting ready to go to work. The bank I work at had offices in 5 WTC. Well as im getting out of the shower I turned the news on like i do every day only to see what was happening. I was totally stunned and pretty much fell to pieces at the thought of someone using my wife as an ICBM to get back the US for something or other.

I tried like hell to reach my wife but could not and at that point nobody knew what planes were used or from where and I assumed the worst.

Once I got myself together I called my job to see how bad things were only to find I could reach nobody. I called another office farther uptown to find out 5wtc had been evacuated.

Meanwhile at JFK Airport my wife had been trying to reach me all morning as well but as you can imagine all cell service was dead and getting to a payphone was a four hour ordeal. When she finally got to a pnone she was unable to reach me and was going under the assumption that I was at WTC working. She also assumed the worst when she saw the towers collapse.

It wasn't until 4:00PM or 5:00PM that we finally made contact and after that point we absorbed exactly what happened and were filled with so much sorrow at the atrocity. In all honesty I know it may sound selfish to some but the only thoughts in our minds at that point were eachother and nothing else. We knew our son was safe at school but just had to find out, one way or the other, what our fates were.

This was the day from hell for both of us as im sure many millions more but when i think of 9/11 my thoughts are always of the horrible atrocity and the day we became widow/widowers ,thankfully for us temporarily.

You are right Seth - it is sad that I needed a reminder...

And you know what? I don't know why I'm getting all fired up at your post, I have no idea what you mean by this...
SethX9 wrote:
Now, could someone please remind me (I'm getting a bit forgetful in my old age) who would Jesus bomb?
...could you explain it to me? For real.

Your bible quotes say to me; no matter what - you should always "turn the other cheek"...so are you saying any retaliation for the 9/11 attacks would be un-Christian...?

Don't get me wrong, I do understand that Iraq was not the attacker that day and that is not the reason we should be there with our troops (that's a whole different debate) - but am I understanding what you're saying with your biblical quotes?

Not to misinterpret it, but it kinda sounded like that.

I still say we need a group hug.
