I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty(as use canadians call them eh..)(KJ) Renegade and i have been looking into installing a detroit truetrac in the front diff and a arb air locker in the rear. I was wondering if anyone has this on their KJ or knows anyone who has had problems(differential housing breaking) with a truetrac in the front alu diff? Iam sure the rear will handle the arb fine right?? and if anyone has any suggestions of a different option for the front differential iam willing to listen?i would love to install a arb locker in the front but i know that wissy alum housing wouldn't handle it!

I've heard that putting the RD100 ARB Air Locker in the front is actually easier on the housing than a non-selectabe locker. The ARB can be turned off if necessary and, apparently, all of the wheel spin is eliminated. I've never tried it though.... The rear 8.25" will handle the RD93 Air Locker without any problems. Other than the weaker c-clips, the KJ's rear 8.25" is comparable to the Dana 44.

renegadekj, thanks for the complement :D. I'm still in the process of installing my ARB: http://www.fuzzymuzzle.com/Car/Gear_Ins ... r_8.25.htm I'll also probably mount the selector switch to the left of the steering column next to my Renegade light bar switch. Although, I think I'm going to use a covered safety toggle switch instead of the standard rocker; I don't really want to knock it on by accident.

Well in 2wd it's almost invisible, but the steering wheel does return to center faster(I think that's a good thing). In 4wd you Know it's there but it does it's job and unlocks while turning if you got traction and stay's locked if it's really slippery out.

renegadekj, here's the switch I was looking at: http://12voltguy.com/catalog.0.html6.0.html I'll might also wire-up a 4WD interlock that will disable the switch when in 2WD.

Jeephead1977, so far it has taken me 8 half days to almost completely install my locker and regear the rear. That's four full days at my pace and maybe one full day at a professional mechanic's pace. If you're not regearing, you can probably cut that time in half for just the locker. The 8.25's adjusters make swapping carriers very easy. I know my local dealership charges ~$90/hr. Although, I'm pretty sure many off-road shops charge less than that. Check out this article at Randy's: http://ringpinion.com/ContentFrame.aspx ... uch%7e.inc

I’m mounting my switch to the right of the steering wheel. Here it will not be bumped or engaged accidentally. There is plenty of room to fit the compressor switch along side of it too. My air switch is on the other side with my light switches. Either location makes a convenient place to mount them.

Spinning your wheels wildly is was causes breakage...so a device that limits wheel slip and spin should actually lessen your chances of a breakage.

Thanks Unixxx, renegadekj,

The switches control (L/R) Rear back up lights on/off/auto; Driving lights on bumper auto/off; The off road lights on the roof on/off; And On Board Air (Viair not ARB) on/off.

The ARB is for the rear. It’s not installed just yet. I finished the wiring yesterday. Today I finished re-plumbing the on board air to power the locker. All that’s left is tearing out the pumpkin. This I’m leaving to the pros. It’s going in to the local Jeep custom shop Tuesday for final assembly.

I'll let you know how I like it once I get it back. :D
Jason
