Nice setup. That is awesome!!!

How did you run the wiring into the door jambs for both front and rear lights?

the rears I just ran under the plastic peaice on the back of the roof bars, under the rubber weather stripping and up to the front inside the cab under the panels. The front I ran under the plastic in front of the roof bars and then down under the plastic beside the windsheild into the engine bay. You just have to remove bout 4 or 5 screws for the front.

Very, very nice job! How long did the install take? Pretty easy? Again, great job!

Lets see the back I did first and they only took bout an hour to install. Then a couple weeks later I got a killer deal on the front two sets of lights on ebay. They took me a lil while longer to do since I had to fab up a bracket to mount the light on which then mounted on the rack. That and running the lights for the front probably took me bout 4.5 hours. Was working with a hacksaw and a hand drill fir the steel bracket i made. Very easy install though.

It looks very sharp. I recently installed a Garvin Industries wilderness rack to the top of my 05 Rubicon and I'd like to mount not only front lights but also lights on the side and the rear so that I have plenty of lighting while out camping, etc. If/when I do that install, I'll keep y'all posted. Nonetheless, thanks for sharing your info with us...very helpful!

Frank

I dont have any pics but it is pretty siple. I just ran the wires under the plastic coming off the back of the roof rails down under the weather stripping in to the rear and ran the wires up to the front under the interior trim panels. I mounted the lights directly to the rack by drilling holes in the rack floor rbaords.

First of all i love the set up, it look awsome.
I'm currently in the process of doing this to my Liberty.
Few questions on the rear/reverse lights; Do they light up when you put the vehicle in reverse? Do you have a switch so that you can switch them on whenever you wish, without the vehicle in reverse?

Carnage, I just finished installing reverse lights on Mine. I am using a double throw switch so that one way, the reverse lights are always on, in the middle and they are always off, the other way and they come on with the normal backup lights.

Which wire(color) did you use to piggy back onto the normal backup lights? I've heard a diode might come in handy, did you use one?

on the '02, same year as mine, it's a brown wire (REALLY dark brown, looks black to me) with a light green stripe. If you take your driver's side kick panel off, there is a big white plastic connector block. Unwrap the bundle of wires coming out of the top and you should be able to find it.

I did not use a diode.

get a DPDT switch

Switch pins:
1. "Left" position: bring in your tap from the reverse wire.
2. "Center" position: Out of the switch to your relay.
3. "Right" position: Bring in your full-time power (accersory power)

from the middle pin on the switch, go to a relay that will pass battery power to your new lights.

The relay acts as the diode. because a relay's "trigger" circuit and it's battery passthrough so not ever touch, you don't have to worry about full battery power feeding back through the switch into the normal backup light circuitry.

Thanks alot. The diode vs relay clears up some confusion.

Can anyone verify that this is the same for a 2006?

It's not the same.

I used advice from W3CSX, but needed to modify it for the '02. The only difference is the wire color. I can't remember what he said it was on his '05 though. And he has a CRD, so THAT might be the difference.

What I would do it pull off one of the tail-lights. Whichever you find is easier to remove. If you have a brown/lightgreen wire going into the wire harness, then it's probably the right wire.

My '05 the reverse light is White with a gray stripe.

Here is a write up I just did for someone else.

Quote:
Mine are wired both ways. This requires two control wires (white in the diagram). Using a double throw center off switch (DTSP). Connect the green wire to post #2. One control line taps the reverse lamps. Connect this to post #1. The other connects to a ignition hot line and get connected to post #3. With the switch in the up position the lights are on no matter what gear you are in. Center position, the lights will always be off. Drop the switch to the bottom and the lights will come on whenever you put the transmission in reverse.

If you only want the lights to come on when in backing up. You can skip the switch and just run the white wire to terminal 86 on the relay. You just will not be able to keep them from coming on while backing.
