The 06 Limited which we are buying (and haven't yet seen in the flesh), has steering wheel audio controls. Can these control an added MP3 player? Any recommendations on how to connect a portable MP3 player to the vehicle system? We have a Sandisk E200 portable player.
Our Passat TDi has the PhatNoise hard drive audio system. Its steering wheel audio controls are very handy. They were almost giving these units away.

I have an iRiver 40G MP3 player and hook it up to the CRD with a Belkin TuneCast II.
Just set the radio to an unused frequency, and set the TuneCast to broadcast to the same frequency.
The volume controls on the steering wheel work, because its using the radio. (It doesn't actually change the voume coming from the MP3player -- it's changing the receiver volume. I find it works best if the MP3 volume output is boosted toward the loud end, then it can always be turned down at the radio.)
You would still have to twiddle with the MP3 player itself to switch to different songs.

Maybe it's not that big a driving distraction to manually change tracks on a MP3 player, but I like PhatNoise's ability to do it with the steering wheel remote. It seems that the Kenwood MusicKeg is similar to the PhatNoise. It works with many Kenwood head units. Anyone know which head unit is used in the Limited's 6-cd system?

That kit only works for Ipods. You (and the rest of us using non-Apple players) are still left waiting for a truly integrated interface for our players. That would be great to be able to control the player using our stereo controls, i am just waiting and hoping that something comes out for Creative players. You could install an aftermarket head unit with an aux jack built in. That would at least let you skip the FM modulator. We have had one for about a year. It works ok, but the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. I think there may be more about this in the electronics section of this board, as this isnt really a CRD specific subject.

I'm not sure what unit's in my Limited, but here's one review of the Crutchfield adapter:

"I have a 2004 Dodge Ram Pick-up with the in-dash 6 disc changer head unit (AKA "RBQ"). I called USA Spec after the one I ordered did not work and they indicated that the RBQ and RB1 head-units are currently incompatible with this device. "
