I took the hose off yesterday and of course the inside was coated with oil. Also the FCV was well lubracated. I droped my nut driver and when I got it I happened to look up and what did I see? Oil comming out of the tube going to the EGR valve. Now that should not be there. What will the excuse be this time?
DCX's reply will be, "That's normal"
You watch, this situation will eventually become the killer of this engine.
I wonder how many engine this has "killed" on the other side of the pond. Haven't they had these for years? Are they running CCVs? I'd like the hear from them. How many miles and such.
I work with a fleet of over 200 Detroit Diesel Series 50 "Clean diesel" engines with a virtually identical emissions system. Not exactly the same because the crankcase vent is open (like an EHM) and has the EGR located on the other side of the engine near the VGT (like the European spec).
These engines also suck oil throught the CAC (turbo seals leaking), does the whole plugged intake manifold thing like the TDI's, and then pass it through the engine where it cokes the VGT and/or causes excessive carbon build-up. We go through VGT's and EGR's by the case and frequently have close to 1/3 of the over 200 coaches down for engine problems, usually VGT or EGR related. Not uncommon to tow 5 or 6 coaches per day for locked-up VGT/EGR (yes, when you loose one all you get is coal black smoke/no power and it can't be driven). We are now replacing engines (3 yr old coaches) for soot scouring ruining the upper engines because sucking recirculated diesel soot through an engine is about the same as running without an air filter.....And that harmless motor oil in your air intake, it make more soot to compound the problem. Have watched this game played too many times to accept this line of BS from DCX.
