So I have made the rear tire mount that everyone else is using, it's made out of steel. In that I am using an SM1 stud deom Durham radio and 18ft of pre made coax. With that I am using a Wilson Flex4 4 ft antenna.

Without the ground strap on the antenna I am getting between 2:1 and 3:1 between channels 1 and 40. Now this is the first antenna I have tried to tune but I assume I cannot get it lower then the lowest reading I am getting from just tuning the tip, I can just get all channels roughly the same reading so I am not gonna get below 2:1. What are my options, I think attaching the ground strap will improve it some, I'll try that tommorow

make sure you r ground is contacting bare metal even if you have to scrape some paint, if that don't help you might wanna try differant coax but it could be a number of things also

which ground, you mean where the mount is attached? it's on the rear tire carrier and I even ran a 10 gauge ground strap from that to the chassis

so your running a separate ground wire correct???? if so just make sure both ends are contacting bare metal NO paint ,powder coat etc. gotta have a clean smooth serface even the nuts, I had a similuar problem but come to find out it was the coax cable I was using I switched that out & problem gone I even threw out my separate ground wire I didn't need it the readings came right down on my firestik antenna to where they should be
