One guy in the OZARKS did before he sold his KJ (after he saw me bend my skid row into a tranny taco (gen 1 back in '02). I do not think the thread made it over here though, as it was on the first LOST board. He went by LibertyPatriot, I think he still lurks every now and then as i still get e-mails from him on occasion. So it can be done, he said it was pretty easy, especially after he saw where and how mine failed.

I was way sick of mud and snow jamming in the HUGE opening between the front bumper valance and engine skid plate. I got one of the hard plastic ones off of a newer Chev truck, they all have them. It fits PERFECTLY from the valance to the engine skid. It has a metal reinforcing bar along the front edge so I drilled that, and put four fine thread metal screws through the valance and through the metal bar. Then drilled three small holes in my factory skid, used fine thread screws with large washers and attatched the back of the plastic skid to the engine skid.

It worked amazing! Keeps most of that annoying engine skid from getting jammed with mud and snow, adds extra float and better "skid" potential, and makes the front valance a lot more rigid because of the metal on the Chev one. I just did some trimming with a utility knife so it matches all the curves and bumps of the factory skid. It looks completely stock and works great!

Let me know if you want some pics or anything

I fabed up my own tranny skid
no it is not as heavy duty as the all j's but it is also <1/2 the price and I plan to put some kind of "out riger" to the unibody when it gets to do more trail duty

I can not remember the exact measurements but it is made from 1/4" thick sheet steel and 1/4" thick X 1X1 angle iron
If you want the measurements PM me and I will go into details

I'd like to see Pixs if you can - that sounds interesting - although I have a hard time visualizing it.
- did it make a mileage difference - highway mileage?
