Weren't they supposed to come up with new lightning to challange SRTs? I guess with the way ford is going, not anytime soon. They wasted their time with Lincoln Mark LT

And don't forget the 13MPG average gas mileage in the GC SRT8 (and no trailer hitch) But it's still a fun ride

Dad wanted one of those and I talked him out of it. It just wasnt practical for us since it had 420lbs of torque and it would be a family vehicle(I would get killed). Its also kinda complicated to get a hitch, but you can get one on them. He settled with the 5.7 Hemi Grand.

^^you talked him OUT of a GC SRT-8?! whatever floats your boat, man...lol

I'll be going to an open track day sponsored by a local performance shop, so everything from tuned WRX's and EVO's to fart canned civics to mud running pickups will be there, probably. er, not so many trucks, but maybe a few. I did an impromptu street drag against a buddy of mine with a mercury mystique 2.5v6 5speed (quick little car, makes about 200hp now), and I beat him by more than a car (jeep) length to 60. He didnt hook up well with his FWD car, I launched in 4wd and took off like I was shot out of a cannon, shifted out of 4wd at about 40mph (its ok up to 55 my manual says).

So what I think i'll do is get off the clutch at about 3500-4500rpm in 4WD, and shift to 2wd after the 1-2 gearshift. That seems to be the easiest way to do it. For those that asked I'm going to drag in 4 then 2 wheel to take advantage of the "sick-ass launch" (my buddy in the mystique called it this haha) that 4wd provides for the best possible 60ft time and immediate acceleration, then 2wheel drive down the track to cut the drivetrain power loss in half. I bet I can go low 16's doing this, ya think?

also how much does a clutch for an '06 cost?

Couple of pointers for the KJ if you're going to fire it down the 1/4.

- Engage 4x4Full Time (to allow ctr diff slippage if nessessary)
- Engage it well before you line up, to allow proper engagement (i'd hate to thing what would happen if you engaged it on the line  )
- Stall/Brake start
- Turn off A/C and radio
- Take out as much unnessessary weight as posible including spare :P!!
- Use the best pump fuel you can get your hands on and put use it a week before to allow ECU to calibrate
- Drop your tire pressures around 10psi less than what you'd normally run
- If you've got an ARB rear locker, switch it on !!!

I'd love an SRT8 Grand on Nos !

I had a 1003 Honda Integra Type R before this KJ that did 13's @ 104Mph ;) Now that was a blast............

Yea, maybe he was going through a mid life crisis. They needed a good vehicle for going on vacation and traveling since they will be retireing soon and I didnt believe the SRT-8 would be the vehicle for them. I see it as a vehicle that stays in the Garage, isnt driven in the rain, the snow, or anything other than a sunny day for that matter. They needed to drive it in the snow and since we live on a hill, they didnt need something with 20" rims and street tires. It was hard to break him of it after he test drove it twice.. He said he had never been in something like that, he didnt have the money for it anyway.

90 in first...right...but the old 13B Rotary would wind up pretty good with the stock 4 barrel.

Rotaries are neat because there's no inherent engine speed limiter - i.e. no valves to float - the only rpm issue is that you wear the bearings faster - there was a buzzer at 500 rpm over the redline (I think it was 6500?) you use that as a shift indicator.
Fun to drive

The Rotaries do need hardened stationary gears among other things to turn more than 8,000 rpm consistently (speaking about 2 rotor motors only). Different apex seals/springs are needed at high rpm also. Once you go to three or four rotor engines, the eccentric shaft has issues with "flex" so rpms need to be around 6500 (like a GTO 4 Rotor Road Racer).

Do you actually get a faster 1/4 by launching in FT 4WD and then getting it to shift into 2WD? I usually have to let off the gas a little to get mine to shift from 4WD to 2WD. I was launching at 2500 rpm with a stall converter in 2WD with a limited slip and a 75 hp shot of N2O with an RPM window switch set at 2900-5600. I didn't have any trouble hooking up at the dragstrip with 245 width tires.

SO what times have you managed to pull out of the KJ ? Thats pretty cool man. A guy over here who owned a speed shop fitted a Nos kit to his daily driver V6 KJ and pulled 14.4 - down from 17.8 or something ??

I've had 2 Rotor's darby, fun little sensored word to drive, rev'ed like a banshee. Blew the 1st 12a Extend port then built a racing spec 13b Monster Bridgeport - only to sell it before ever instaling it :( !! It went on to win just about every race it entered 8) 8) man I was proud of that one........

I can get a 14.1 out of it, but a better driver can barely touch the 13's. I can run high 15's with no silly juice. That's running with the spare and skid plates still on it, and me in the seat weighing in at 200 lbs.

I'm still waiting for someone to throw 2.4 SRT pistons in their 2.4 KJ and turboing it. I think we can get 13 easy ot of it. Yes they are the same motor.

Really, the same motor? I have seen some SRT-4s hopped up to over 500 HP! That would be a sweet KJ for sure, If an SRT-4 was available along with the CRD I would have had some decisions to make...NAH CRD all the way. But I would have test drove one just for kicks.

Sounds like a good project for KY liberty...hint hint nudge nudge
