OK my buddy has an 04 Renegade and he wants/needs a tow hitch.

He bought one from somewhere online, (I forget where, it's been about two years) but it was the wrong thing.

It was very close, but the one he got seemed to have straight bolt holes on both sides, and he needed one of them to be staggered I think?

If I am remembering his looks like this:

Any recommendations for what he should get, and if they changed the hitch mount points for certain years, any idea what the break point is?
(He still has the old hitch, so if he can figure out what it will fit, he'll be trying to sell it for cheap.)

Cheers, and thanks for any help.

Chris

I'm not too sure about the mounting... Mine was factory installed but this link contains a list of the most common hitches for the Liberty...

Good Luck

Yea that link shows the same thing he has:
http://www.usa-trailer-hitches.com/cart ... /87006.pdf

Well that one.
I mean I could probably make it fit? But since it still isn't quite paid off, he won't let me talk him into a lift or "making" it fit.

Probably a good idea on his part.

Is it that the bolt holes are not lined up or what? Is it wide enough, I mean does it fit up against the frame? Shame to buy another if this one may fit, do some measuring and then if not like racinfan said U haul is a pretty good one just get the wiring from somewhere else. Uhaul wiring costs me some time and problems since it shorted out and melted

It's a combo of the bolts won't fit, AND the exhaust (or gas tank?) is in the way.
It's been almost 2 years since I tried to install it for him, (he has the mechanical aptitude of a well, ermm, let's just say he shouldn't be trusted with even a cordless screw driver)

But now they have to replace a bunch of trees at their house, soooooo wife wants him to be able to get some trees out there.
AKA, he needs a trailer.
:)

(and he can't buy a bass boat until he has a trailer hitch)

I'll probably just steal his libby one day at lunch, run up to Uhaul and get one then stick it on for him.

If he'd ever respond to my email, I'd give you guys a picture of the one he has.
Someone might want it.
:)

If he's looking for something really strong, he can get an overspecified Class IV Draw-Tite or Reese. I can't really say what class he'd need because I only use my Draw-Tite for my recovery shackle.

That right there is a nice looking hitch... I always thought of a U-haul hitch as square and boxy. I am a fan of having components tucked up and out of sight (as much as possible)
