I already installed 255 tires, do i'll feel an improvement in torque if I put them?

Yes, putting in the 4:10 gears will gain back some of the torque that you lost by putting on the bigger tires. :)

Thanks guys for the help.
OK, now I got you. :)

From where should I buy for both Rear & Front?
rocky-road.com has the rear, what about the front, and should I get them both or the rear one will be fine?

It would be ok to get the rear from Rocky-Road.

You can only get the front from a 4-Cylinder libby or from the dealership. It would be cheaper to get the rear at Rocky road, then try to find a wrecked 4cylinder and get the fronts. :)

Thanks for the help, I'll try to find a 4 cylinder KJ, but I don't think we have them here in the Middle East

Would you say it's woth the time and money to install it?? Mine should be here wednesday 4/4/07 will be installed on thursday. I have the filters just need to pick up some atf+4. I think i saw on here i need 7qts for the trans. I'm gonna do the xfer case too. Whats that another 2qts? Dont want to buy to much, this stuff is expensive!!

As for you jet chip i read on a dodge forum somewhere some guy had the same problem, he removed the jet chip and installed the resistor and said it shifted way better than using the jet chip. Just a thought if you have time maybe give that a try. I dont have a jet chip so i'll just put the resistor in. I'll update once i install it..[/quote]

I have thought about removing the Jet Chip to see what happens, but I haven't had the time to really play with it. I also think I could tweak it a bit by trying different resistors...but once again, haven't had the time yet.

Was it worth it? If I was doing it strictly for performance, no. However, someone mentioned that doing the work on the pump makes the biggest difference and that requires the tranny to be out. I'm guessing here, but if I had installed the whole kit, then probably it would be worth it. To me the biggest factor was increasing the life of my tranny...so my answer is yes.

Just a couple suggestions for when you are doing the work. I changed my filters last year and when I did that I also installed a drain plug. For $2 it will make your life that much easier the next time you want to crack open your transmission. Don't be afraid to tighten it (I had a small leak and had to wait to drop the pan to tighten it up again.) Don't hesitate to remove the front drive shaft, I had to disconnect both ends to get to the 23 pin connector. Don't break your connector like I broke mine. This next one is more of a heads up: be prepared to have fluid everywhere. Once you get the valve body out, sit it in a pan to work on it. I soaked my jeans as well as a huge bath towel....what a mess. Once you get the pan off, you can try to wait for the fluid to stop dripping off of the valve body, but it doesn't stop. You are going to be covered in transmission fluid one way or another, just get it over with!

Ok, to make a long story short.

I got my shift kit yesterday and installed it today. All i can say is what a mess! Transmission fluid everywhere. Anyway i get the kit installed changed the filters. Made a mess with the stupid rtv to use as a pan gasket. Get it all filled up and go for a test drive. I will say it makes the 1-2 and 2-3 shift very nice. It's firm but doesn't bang, just perfect. Anyway i get home check the fluid again. Look under the jeep to check for leaks and the #$%* trans pan is leaking from the #$!* rtv!!!! Why chrysler doesnt make a trans pan gasket is beyond me. Probably the same idiots who designed the ball joints!! I went to advance auto parts and what do you know they have a pan gasket. Tomorrow i will get to make a mess again. Although not as much because i installed a drain plug in the transmission, but i do get to buy another $35 worth of trans fluid! :( Next week the trac lok goes in, that should be alot easier.

Sounds good.. Make sure that the gasket is the correct one before you drop the pan. Ive heard that people have trouble finding the right one.

Do you care to tell us what kind of drain plug you installed in the pan? Do you have any pics of the shift kit install/drain plug? :)

Yeah the gasket looks right, I forgot to get some more atf+4 while i was there.

I didn't take any pics of the install. I was feeling sick today and laying upside down under the jeep was making it worse. I just wanted to get done.

Here is a write up i found online while researching the kit.

http://liberty.eurekaboy.com/transgo.htm

I got the drain plug from Pep Boys. It is identicle to the pic below but not a B&M brand. The one i got has a stupid oring on the actual plug part and of course that is leaking too. I'm gonna take the oring off and just teflon tape it. What a day! :(

The shift kit install is now complete and no more leaks  . I installed the transgo reprogram kit in my 45rfe. It is a noticable difference, i think it's worth the $77 i paid for it. I also installed a drain plug in the transmission pan. Made changing the fluid the second time alot easier. Yesteday i used RTV as the gasket, well it didn't work. There was trans fluid leaking everywhere. I went to my local auto parts store and got a rubber trans pan gasket and another $40 worth of atf+4. Yes the aftermarket makes a gasket but chrysler doesn't, go figure  Anyway here is a pic of the drain plug. I installed it in this location so it wouldnt get ripped off by anything or if the pan got dented it wouldnt put the drain plug through the valve body. I am now happy with the install. If anybody plans on intalling a drain plug i stronly suggest ditching the cheap rubber oring it comes with and teflon tape the plug. No more leaks on mine.

believe me, I know the feeling! I'm glad you are done and happy with the shift kit. i've been playing with differnent resistors on the line pressure sensor and wow, what a difference. still working on it though.

Any updates to this? Is everyone that has the kit still happy with it? Was it worth it? Im thinking of getting it after the weekend and I want it to be worth the trouble of putting it in.

Jeepjeepster, it's a very hard decision. There is a noticeable, but very minimal difference. The Transgo Kit has a very small performance improvement compared to the Transgo Kit for the 45RFE. However, I bought my Jeep brand spankin new and wanted to install a Transgo Shift Kit as I do with every vehicle I buy. In most makes and models there are major performance improvements when installing a Transgo Shift Kit. The 42RLE is not one of them. Transgo did manufacture this Shift Kit as they saw some room for correction. The Kit is intended to shorten the shifts which is also to prolong the life of the transmission. To answer your question, it was worth it to me. If you are an aggressive driver, then you will notice the improvement more than someone who is light footed. There is a difference in the factory’s (soft) shifting Springs verses Transgo’s (tighter coiled) shifting Springs. When I added my custom air intake, the shift kit seemed to play a more significant role as more power was delivered to the shifting. We did all the work in the valve body and did not install the spacer as it would involve removing the transmission. Transgo says that you will benefit from changing out the springs but will not gain the full benefit from the Kit unless, naturally, you install the entire Kit. I’m happy that I had the Shift kit installed, I just don’t want others to be upset if they aren’t happy with the outcome. If you got the money to burn, then do it.

I dont know about he 42 but the 45rfe came with a big snap ring no spacer. Only way to replace it is tear down half the trans. to get to it. I love the kit i'd say it was worth it. Biggest difference i can tell is with the 2-3 shift. It's doesnt bang it's just nice and firm.

We did not have the Low/Rev Piston Housing (known as the steel spacer) and O’ring and expander spring installed. The plate fits all years and models, but I’m not sure what the upgrade does. I know you have to take out and disassemble the entire transmission to get to it. I’m sure it has great value, but the manual said you could skip this part if the transmission was already in the vehicle. I wish I could have completed the installation of my install, but it would have cost a lot more money to take out the transmission and disassemble it. However, I would highly recommend you do it.

i dont know why everyone has such a hard time with a big mess. when i dropped my pan, i dont think i spilled one drop outside the drip pan.

and the pan gasket that comes with the fram kit (truck tranny) works great, no rtv needed.
