Hey guys,

Well, the ol' Rene has just over 82k on it now, and it's developed a nice vibe in the front end that the dealer has not been able to pinpoint. It started out as an almost metal-on-metal rubbing sound, and now seems to be more of a vibe. It can also be felt up through the brake pedal.

I'm thinking front driveshaft possibly? Do these sound like the symptoms of the front ds? How much of a pain is it to replace?

I've also heard that the shaft runs for @ $500 from the dealer too, so when you leave there, you really do get the shaft.... I'd just like to get it resolved before I actually mount the Soft 8's and Grabbers on it.

Thanks for the help everyone. It's greatly appreciated.

As far as replacing the front drive shaft is concerned,it's 12 bolts and remove and install and tighten 12 bolts, about a 10-30 min job at most(depending if you have a tranny skid or not).

Take the drive shaft out and go for a drive see if the vibe is still there before you get shafted on a $500 shaft you may not need.

Thanks for the input, guys. Doesn't sound too involved at all. I'll have to crawl under the Rene to pull the ds and take it for a spin.

I had a scraping sound & it ended up being the T-case. I narrowed it down by removing the front drive shaft & driving around like that. Getting the drive shaft past the exhaust & rear cross member is like doing one of those metal tavern puzzles. It can be done but you might want to lower the rear cross member.

& if it is the drive shaft, JE Reel makes an upgraded replacement.
