Just cleaned mine today for the second time. It had 5000 miles on it since last cleaned. It had a noticeable and expected oily film, but wasn't plugged and was still operational. I am going to back off on the cleaning to 10K mile intervals.

First of all, how does one post pics that aren't linked? That's the only way I know how.

Secondly, use the URLs I included as "code" at the bottom of the post. Copy each one and paste it into your browser. The pics should come up that way. If not, I don't know what to say besides get a different web filter, or try someone else's computer. If you want, PM me and I'll e-mail the pics to you.

I've had the plastic shroud off for ~6 months now and it gets pretty dry here in Denver = dusty. Do you clean your engine compartment regularly?

How can you tell if your sensor is no longer any good? does it throw a code? I cleaned mine but it was still black in some spots. Stuff was cooked on there...

If your MAP sensor goes bad it will throw a code and go into limp mode. I know from experience. :(

Hi! I just cleaned the MAP sensor... 12300 miles and it didn't seem that dirty.
I sprayed it off with sensor cleaner and put it back.
Good thing that I have slim fingers! :)

So I decided to do a little spring cleaning of the engine compartment tonight and decided this weekend I am going to tackle the MAP sensor since it has 31K on it. After seeing where the sensor is based on these pictures and finding it on the engine, I noticed that it seems a little hard to get to. Has anybody else had trouble with the wiring harness getting in the way? If not, what are some solutions/recommendations to removing it? Anything I should be careful of also?

It's not tuff to remove...take time.....lift wiring harness above it to gain a little clearance. Use 4mm(I think) hex wrench to remove. This is only bolt holding it down. Snap out. Clean. Replace.

Remove the round clips holding the harness and replace them with nuts.

Cleaned my MAP yesterday, soooo easy. I have 92800 kms on my jeep and this is the first time cleaning the sensor. I have been using ULSD since day one. It was clogged pretty good but it was still kinda soft. Will check again in a few thousand kms, probably next oil change.

Yes thats a Jeep. There is one here that looks like that, I see it once in a while riding around. I would love to find one of those old MB's that I could afford.

They can be found, this one was sitting beside the road near the farm house on a back road in the middle of no where when I saw it and stopped to check it out. Everything works, averaging about 27 mpg in town and will run a 110 mph without straining. 8)

Remember if price is right I will sell anything I own.

However you will have to pry the wife's hands off the MB's stearing wheel, because she loves the car. 8)

took out the sensor today and cleaned it...much easier than I thought. it was caked pretty good but I used electrical component cleaner I got from work and it came right off. I am going to keep an eye on mileage and see if i notice any difference.

I was already changing the fuel filter so I figured it would be a good time to pull the MAP too. This is at 30k miles. (Yes, I know its a little late for the fuel filter.)

I couldn't believe how wet it was. With what though, oil from the infamous CAC?

After a half a can of carb cleaner and a little gentle encouragement from a tooth brush:

Image

I've been getting about 24mpg so far driving about 90% expressway with the cruise set at 79mph most of the time. We'll see if this helps.

Well i cleaned it again today. Looked a lot better than last time. I did it with my first oil change (10,000km) and it was covered with soot and oil could not make out any internals but this time it was just oily, oil change #2 (20,000km). Has to be that the orm is doin its job at keeping the soot out of the engine, may not have increased my mileage but keepin the engine soot free is priceless. Took of the intercooler hose and now have decided vent the engine to the ground, woo hoo trip to crappy tire

This time i broke the clips holding on the wiring harness, i remember someone said what size nut i need to replace them but i dont remember, any help would be appreciated. Also my harness is on very close to the map and i just have to be careful and go slow, no other way around it.

Also thinkin that when i remove the fuel filter to add the cat filter i might just be able to access the egr and install some sort of plate to permantly block it off, thoughts were a piece of pop can cut to fit? then placed between the inlet flange and the egr. Or would i need something stronger, and is there even enough room to reach the egr that way? Just my thinking...... got time till i get the cat kit to think some more

Well I finally got up enough courage and cleaned my MAP/IAT sensor last weekend and it was over due for sure at 14k. Man it sure needed it, but when I got done she looked like new. First top off on the tank a week later, mileage was 24.1 and that was local driving. Will put this on my things to do more often for sure. Thanks for the great instructions on doing this, and yes it is easier to lift the wiring harness out of the way. P.S. are the studs with the cheesie spring nuts that hold the wire loom down 10mm by chance? Oh by the way, it's in the shop right now getting a new fuel filter head installed. :):) THANKS!!

I believe they are, I replaced them with nuts and I think that was the size they were.

After reading about the problems with coked up MAP sensors, I decided to pull mine and take a look. It was bad after 19,884 miles so I cleaned it. I didn't have any Techron which works great, so I used carb cleaner and brake cleaner. One trick that may help keep the MAP cleaner would be to install a riser block to get the MAP out of the oil/soot fog in the manifold. When I get one fabricated, I will post it with a drawing. My Wife's MAP on her VW TDI does not have the coking problem we have on the Liberty CRD since the TDI puts it in another location.
