Dog gate for cargo area?

Anyone have a source for a gate to separate the cargo area? We just got a new labrador and he's kinda spazzy on the leatha.

Maybe seat covers would be a better option because I do hate to deprive him of sticking his noggin out the window.

I couldn't do the gate personally. I wouldn't be able to look in the rearview mirror if the dogs were trapped back there. I cover the front seat (when my wife's not riding with me) and just drop the rear seats down "flat." I throw the dog blankets in the back for them to tear up and they have some good space to hang out in. When I have a load, I put straps across the rear cargo area (strapped through the squarish rear seat latches that stick out when the seats are down.

just bought one on ebay for 30 bucks shipped, aluminum, black has 4 horizontal adjustable, and 2 vertical adjustable, i have 2 labs myself, ones only 6months, they do real well back there. if you want the link for the one i got, its below,its fairly cheap, but does the trick i can take pics too

I have cloth so its not as big a deal but I prefer to fold the seats down and let my guys (a rottie mix and a great dane mix) just hang out in the back. I only wish I had a commander when those 2 are back there. It works as a harness when we get out of the car too (though we normally use an EZwalk for normal walks since they clip in front of the chest it wont let them pull). I would check your state laws because in PA (where I used to live) you can be ticketed for endangering an animal if you get in an accident and your dog wasn't secured. Back to the protection question - Your best bet overall would be to just get a low cost canvas rear seat cover. Get one cheap enough that you won't care when they get it all dirty and stuff.

No problem. I've never actually bought anything from them, but I like shopping their stuff. The hammock is awesome! I just don't think my dogs would share it very well.

http://www.cabelas.com/ Cabellas has some really good quality seat covers. I've seen some big dogs climb on their "universal fit" things (which are the cheapest the offer) and NOTHING got through them.

I initially had a pet barrier that I bought from PetsMart ($60 or $70). It was a pressure fit type and I didn't like it that much because of the way it dug into the headliner. I took it back after a week or two and went for the Mopar cargo partition, which was much more expensive ($150 or $160) and it required drilling into the body, but it fit like a dream.

It turned out I was overly concerned about drilling into the body, because the install went much easier than I anticipated. It takes a few minutes with a ½" socket to get the upper bolts out when I need to remove it, but it doesn't press into the ceiling like the first one did. I like it a lot, and it keeps our lab from shedding all over the seats.

Lastly, I would argue that it is safer keeping the dog confined to the cargo area. If you have to slam on the brakes with the dog in the Jeep, there is much less distance for him to travel before "impact" with the back of the seats and there is less energy his body will have to absorb = smaller chance of injury.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for all the info guys. I think I will go with the cargo gate from Mopar. When the dawg's in the seats he has a tendency to stomp my kids if they're in the car and he does tend to slide around during braking and turns.

The cargo area seems safer for all parties involved.

i have the pressure fit type weegie reffered to. Used it for months & it never left anything permanent on the headliner. Eventually my dog just got 2 big for that area period (Great Dane) and i now have two (Danes that is). SO the gate sits in my garage collecting dust.

Cost me about $60 but if you want i would give it to you for the price of shipping. Just PM me.

gastip, this may be a bit late for your decision, but I went with the MOPAR gate and have been pleased for about a year. The dog is an Airedale (airhead!) terrier, 50lbs 4 y/o, who tears back and forth in the back surveying traffic and barking at pedestrians and bicyclists. There's plenty of room for her there.....remember, they like kennels at some point because it make's em feel safe. Anyway, the fit and finish is good, the things is sturdy, and after about 14 months here with temp changes and some rough roads the thing is solid as a rock. just my 2 bits
