Why would you want to? Not a good isea unless you live in the south. With USLD you will be needing the heater.

I think the many issues with the fuel heater burning out prematurely, leaking fuel, and in general being a pain in the azz is what prompted the question. I have suffered with this issue, along with many others. The replacement fuel head was also showing signs of overheating on the wires to the heater socket. Unplugging in the summer was a temporary solution, but winter temperatures require something better.

I was able to stop this overheat condition by using battery cleaner on the plug and socket, drying it, then using an electrical dielectric paste on the socket and pins. The burning wire/socket stopped! On mine, the issue appears to have been poor contact at the fuel socket to the plug pins. Makes me wonder if this is what burned out the original fuel heater and caused the leak. Just happy to stopped the burning plug isssue. It nows runs at normal temperature regardless of how long the engine has been running.

Ranger1, that's great info! I'm going to put some on later today. A little dialectric will save a lot of headaches, we should all use it on our connectors in the engine bay... can't think of a good reason not to.

Speaking of headaches, I'm still getting a minor leak that results in a stall-out on initial start about one in 3 times (usually after sitting overnight). I'm pretty sure it's not FCV related as the problem goes away with a little priming. I can't see any fuel anywhere, so I'm going on the assumption that it's the hockey-puck gasket (or HPG, for short) which was badly compressed when I did the conversion. Does the replacement head come with a new, uncompressed, HPG or is it preassembled? Anyone know if it's available on it's own? I love the CAT but since installing it, the fuel system is driving me crazy with this slow air leak....

Dan

got mine today after two business days- thanks Greg, going in at the first sign of air in the fuel system, sooner if (off topic) I get the fence put up this weekend.

Dgeist, I know there is mention of replacing the HPG with the oem filter gasket removed for the CAT install, just where it's mentioned..........
don't remember, but that is my plan when the CAT goes in, that and a wery keerful bench top overhaul and install. 8)

It comes complete with everything, head, filter, wif sensor, the works, all pre-assembled. Can't find a replacement heater unit, which is all most of these need. If your fuel head is leaking diesel at the heater socket, it's all over for that one. Time for a new fuel head. If its just an air leak, try following retmil46's post on how to replace the stock gasket on the head unit - it can use an oil or fuel filter gasket, which has a better seal than the original.

Slightly off topic, but on point:

I recently had some maintenence done at the dealer including a fuel filter change at my local dealer (I get free oil changes, so I give them the other business as well).

In any event, the service writer told me that DCX had changed the flat rate book and would now list a fuel filter change as a 2 hour (yes, TWO hour) labor rate. At the 85/hr my dealer charges that would mean a cost of over $ 200 with parts and labor. Although they did not charge me the new rate, but rather warned me about the issue I took the "hint" and that is the last time I will pay them to do that service. I simply will do it myself, or possibly change out to the mod noted in this thread.

2.0 @ $85 Crazy - POS filter too! The mod works great; no air leaks, great filter and, by all means, no Jeep Dealer Hacks.

Watched a tech at my dealer change one yesterday and it took 27 minutes fro punching time in and out n the work sheet. Someone is giving you BS I suspect, I doubt that Jeep has changed the time up to 2 hours. Hech that was about the amount of time it took me to change over from OEM to the Cat filter, at most maybe 40 minutes with my arthertic hands.

I'm bet that a competent tech with all the parts lined up on a table and not having to wait for cool-down, etc could do the job in under 2 minutes....

Well I got 20 ft of Silicon tubing to replace bad vacuum lines on the MB, but they sent red & blue colored line instead of black like I requested. Under hood of the MB will be colorful to say the least. I already have some red & yellow tubing under the hood.

Is the Jeep Liberty CRD Bleeder Valve Kit required or even needed for the Cat 2 filter? I just placed my order for the Cat filter and other stuff, if this valve will work on the cat filter too why not? Thought I would ask so I can add it onto my order if need be. Thank you.

The bleeder is on the head no the filter (That silver colored thing sticking out on the passenger side). You need it to bleed air out of the system after doing something like changing the fuel filter. Right now it is like a brake bleeder where you loosen it with a wrench, pump the filter primer and watch the fuel spew all over you motor.

Gotcha, I thought it was on the filter. Greg called my cell right after the order and clarified things for me, I bought that little bad boy too. Greg was really prompt and great to deal with, two thumps way up!

Got my fuel drain valve this afternoon and will put it on later tonight or about sunrise tomorrow due to heat & humidity outside. I guess I am just going to have to buy an a/c unit for the garage before long. Anyway it looks to be a simple straight foreward install, my guess is 15 minutes for this old fart or 5 minutes for Greg.

Time for my nap before grandson gets home.
