I tried yesterday to get a Wix fuel filter for my CRD at a local Oreilly's Auto Parts. Their system showed the part as available, but that none of their stores actually stocked it. I guess if we can't even get something as simple as a fuel filter without going to the dealership, we are completely at their mercy when it comes to replacement parts in the future. I just hope that my local dealership, which is only 2 miles away from home, isn't one of the ones that gets 'consolidated' in the future. That would leave me driving a lot further to the next nearest Jeep franchise for stupid things like filters. Makes that CAT conversion filter look even better.
Have you not followed the pages about the Cat fuel filter conversion and the AIMSOIL oil filters for our CRD's??? Far better and cheaper then OEM filters.

I do not have a "source" for the 10 year rule except by personal experience. When I had a German built Opel (sold thru Buick dealers) the car was no longer imported into the US. I went to the Buick dealer for an electrical part and was told they were out of stock, but could be ordered as it was required that they keep parts for 10 years after model year. I did order the part and about 4 weeks later it came in and I picked it up.

I think you are right. It is either 7 or 10 years. There doesn't seem to be any restriction on how long they can list something as back-ordered though. Bit of a loophole if you ask me.

Electronic parts are 7 years, while standard mech parts are 10 years, EPA parts are 10 to 15 years best I remember.

No, I must have completely missed the thread about the Cat fuel filter. I am still hesitant to hang a heavier filter on a filter head that some have had leakage problems with when using the smaller OEM filter. The Amsoil may be good, but I don't want to bother ordering and paying shipping on something I can just drop by my local dealer to get. Call me lazy or cautious, or both.
