This is badass.

I would kindly suggest a few brave and skilled testers confirm the results.

I would gladly offer my own rig up, but I am not much of a gearhead. If somebody else wants to build it, I will bring the rig to plug it into and we can take an offroad trip... :D

Here is what prototype looks like. Some of the circuitry on the right is not needed as it was for visual reference so I could see what the EGR and FCV were doing at the same time while driving. http://picasaweb.google.com/Turbo4tim/J ... 9325796690

And here is where I plan on making the new box fit in the engine compartment. http://picasaweb.google.com/Turbo4tim/J ... 7915731298

Is this a purely combinational circuit, or is a state machine involved? I am wondering if packing this into a cheap modern-day programmable microcontroller with some buffered I/Os would be the best solution.

I thought about that, but I'm not that good at writing code (I get too many "1's" and "0's" mixed up). I also considered using one of those Atmel Micro Controllers, but way too much time for me involved getting the code right. Would be smaller.
Long story short, this is purly analog. 1 quad op-amp package, and two quad comparators. Sprinkle in some caps and resistors, and one relay and your done.
By the way, I was able to clear all 6 CEL codes with the "Sprinkler Timer Mod Circuit" plugged in. The computer is happy.

Now, does anyone want to step up and get circuit boards made? Just how many of these will end up getting made? We do need to make a few and be sure they work for other CRD's as well. Let me know.....

How much would one cost? If the cost is not to bad I would be in for one. I am not smart enough to make one myself. I can work on people not electronics.

I've been out of the loop on small run circuit boards for a while now.

What I can offer is that we have a local electronics surplus place that is really great. I should be able to put together a parts kit for this at a good price for folks in need.

Waiting to see a schematic.

Tim. How many wires do you need to cut into? I'm guessing EGR, FCV, and MAF. Plus tapping onto the transmission pin 41.

Steve

ps Just took a look around and found this place:

www.PCBexpress.com

20 3x3 double sided boards for less than $10/board. Not bad.

I'm pretty technical, but I don't think I could fab up anything that technical. I'm spoiled by the "plug and play" computers of today.

I'd be willing to build and test the "Sprinkler Timer Mod Circuit". I probably have most of the required parts laying around, so I should be able to get it up and running fairly quickly. Let me know when you have a schematic you can share.

Turbo, you sir are a master hacker 8)

Anxiously awaiting schematic and parts list. I hope this goes better than the heathkit radio I built as a kid...:P

Good Job Turbo Tim.

Taaaaa Daaaaa......Here it is. Now give me a break as I have to work all day and then put all this documentation together.
You can see the schematic, parts list, how you wire it in, Jeep CPU connector layouts, and the metal box that I am putting mine in. Remember, there is a 10 Ohm resistor that gets very hot and needs to be mounted to a heat sink, like a metal enclosure!

If you want a a clean copy in a PDF file, PM me your email and I'll send you one.
For those who want a circuit description of how and why things are the way they are, that's coming. That too will be posted for those who are curious (like me).

Any questions, Please ask.......

Guys, it's as plain as the nose on your face. The two banks of quad comparators act as four stage A/D conversion. Depending on the values of EGR and FCV the computer is putting out (which are peak detected by the diode and cap) additional values of MAF signal are added to the existing MAP signal fooling the computer that there is more flow than there really is. It then thinks the EGR system is functioning when its not. The relay does the FCV shutdown function.

See wasn't that easy

Nice job Tim. It's always the fooling around with different component values until things work that take all the time.

Yeah...really easy. Nothing to it.

In other words, I'll live with the CEL since I don't have a clue as to how to build this thing and I'm guessing not more than 5 people (if that many) on this board could.

BUT...if those of you who have the knowledge produced some of these things, you could put some money in your pocket for sure.

Once proof of concept has been validated on this device, I would bet that providing a commercial vendor the info and letting them get the boards built for sale would be a reasonable option. Someone like John Kennedy at Kennedy Diesel or perhaps Greg. I desperately want this item but I too will have to get someone else to build it for me, which I will do. But as has been stated, this work deserves some compensation. Looks like someone could make a couple of bucks off of the work effort and expertise.
