235/65/17 vs. 245/65/17

now that i'm de-lifted :cry:

and no M/T's i really want to get the stock tires off and
put some A/T's on. I'm thinking the Wrangler Silent Armors

does anyone know how much rubbing i'll get with these? am i goin to need spacers for all 4 wheels?

Just wondering, but why are you delifted? What lift? With a good lift it would seem like it was cheaper to keep the lift and fix minor issues than to go back to stock (money/time on labor), get rid of lifted tires (more money gone), and buy new stock ones? Now if you had a rockkrawler lift or something I would understand...

A few people run 245s without a problem while others need some minor modifications like trimming and bending pinch weld, in addition to spacers.
I don't wheel, I wanted to get the wranger silent armors just for the better performance, but after hearing those stories of rubbing, etc. I decided not to, and just to stick to stock size 235.

I have 235/75/R16 tires. They fill up the wheel wells very nicely with a minor amount of rubbing at the fog light bulb access hatches at full lock. They give the Liberty a very beefy and aggressive look! I hate the tires, but I like how they look!

I run the 245/65/17 Silent Armors with 1.5" spacers. I really like the tires but there is cutting and pounding needed. I put on spacers to offset the added height that a lift would give. Think roll over angle. But, and it is a big but, the tires stick out a little further than the flairs. When I go off road I'll have to take the spacers off or the tires will hit the flairs when trying to stuff. Maybe a smaller spacer would have been better.

I ditched the stock tires 1 month after buying my Jeep new and picked up 245/70/16 BridgeStone Dueller Revo's. Great tires!! I had no rubbing issues with stock and loved these tires. They did great in all sorts of weather, water, mud, snow, etc...

had the Frankenlift BEFORE i got married...we needed extra cash to offset wedding/honeymoon expenses...so the wife had me sell the lift & tires.. i know i know...should of just gotten
rid of the wife huh?! :lol:

anyway...i really don't like the stock tires and want to get a good A/T tire that's looks beefier and better performance. I know they don't make much A/T's
for my wheel size.. 17x7.5 but thought if i went up to 245's it wouldn't be that major of an issue..i don't want to do a lot of work.
Do they make any decent tires for 235's?

I run a stock 2003 KJ with 245/65/17 Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors - with no rubbing! But there are some guys around who had some slight rubbing with 245s.

yea i think i'm gonna go w/the 245 Silent Armor's. If i have rubbing..i guess i'll have to do some trimming&pounding..

Hey how do you like the Silent Armor's?...are they pretty good on road too? i want a great balance between daily driving and off-roading.

I have 6K on my tires. I have had them in gravel, deep sand and mud. I drove about 1K miles round trip with some of it in heavy rain. There is no doubt that they are 100% better than stock.

The Silent Armors are phenomenal tires ... worth the money!

Tracktion on dry roads is 100:1 compared to the stock Goodyears but when it comes to wet conditions the Silent Armors really play out their strenght. I have had no complaints yet - even in heavy rain ... on the same highway exits where my stock tires always tended to give me a hard time!

Snow tracktion is very impressive too - the more snow the better (they have small lashes in their profile for deep snow traction) - I drove on forest roads with about 8 inches of snow with no problems.

I am running mine now for about 15,000 miles and could not be happier with the decision I made to buy these Goodyears!

What do you think about the difference between Wrangler and Fortera silent armors? They are same tires (possibly identical) inside, but with a different tread pattern. Wranglers, are A/T while Forteras are all season.

The main difference is the off road traction. I wanted a tire that is more capable of doing some off roading.

Doing a comparison of these 2 tires on the Goodyear website we get the following results:

Wrangler Silent Armor / Fortera Silent Armor
Dry traction 9 / 8
Wet traction 9 / 8
Snow traction 10 / 8
Quiet ride: 8 / 10
Off road traction: 9 / 5

So as the Wrangler is better in every category - except for quiet ride - the choice was easy for me.

My pre-lowered does great with Firestone Destination AT 245/65R17's on 2005 17X7.5's with no rubbing, and no pinchweld flattening. If you have a newer KJ, you can do a clevis or Rusty's 1/2" strut plate up front and a spring isolator in the rear to clear the 245's. They ride almost as smooth as the 245/70R16 Cross Terrains I had before, but actually handle much better. The traction is much more agressive also. They get me through snowy mountains and ice storms with no problems. You save a about 3 lbs per tire for a little better mpg than the Silent Armors. If you're going to off-road, I would recommend the Silent Armors. That extra weight gets you some more durability. Or if you just prefer them. I only got the Firestones with the understanding I might be back the next day to have them removed and something else put on.
