What is so bad about dropping the cradle? An SFA has an axel there instead of the cradle. I would think there would be equal or more travel than a 6" SFA lift and I would think you'd get better tire placement when crawling since the right wheel doesn't care what the left one is doing.

I'm probably wrong just thinking about this (mechanical designer) like I do my other problems.

Also, talking about the cost. Yes, they could charge whatever they wanted because of no competition, but they also have to realize what the market will pay for. Remember we bought libs because they were a cheaper option. Most of us won't pay 'any amount' to get this lift, especially if it approches the cost of an SFA conversion.

I'm sure it will come to market (if it actually does) at a reasonable price point (still a lot I'm guessing) when compared to an SFA or Frankenlift.

hate to burst the bubble, but with this lift you will be able to fit bigger meat, 33"+... the d30a simply won't hold up. A regular d30 (on a cherokee) barely hold up.

So think about this very carefully... you spend this $ you go wheeling and pop, your front diff housing cracks. You'll be lucky if you can get a used one for $500 plus labor.

If your limits are going beyond current lifts on the market & 32" tires, you really ought to do a SFA. In the long run it will save you $ and be stronger.

The front Dana30A won't live with anything over 33" tire and your pushing it with a 33" tire.

Didn't Jeepin Al have 33's on his liberty? His seemed to hold up just fine.

Yes he had 33's. He also had some reinforcements welded on to his front diff (similar to the collar that a lot of you guys have) when he had it regeared to 4:10. I don't know if they really made any difference or he was just easy on the skinny pedal.

Im not very agressive in this jeep, mainly because it is a daily. The wheelin I do doesnt really require more tire than I already have. Although I think a Libby would just look sick with a set of huge 33's.

But I guess it depends on how you drive. My Best Buddy has been running 35x14.5 on his D30 in his YJ for years. And those are HEAVY tires.

The D30 is not aluminum like our D30A's,that's the big difference.Plus the CV's aren't ment for that much stress, sure it will live but you need to be very careful with that skinny pedal or BOOM goes the D30A!!!!Plus the D30's in YJ's,XJ's,and TJ's you can upgrade to 30-spline alloy axles, you can't in our D30A's,gotta stick to the 27-spline CV joints and shafts. Also you would only be able to gear down to 4.10's,you'll be sucking with 33's,I'm sucking with 4.10's and 31.5's.

I suppose thats the challange. Balancing the setup, while trying to keep your KJ in one peice on the trail.

Well, when the D30A crumbles under 33's, I'll probably one of the firsts to know LOL. But hey, I got a few years left on these BFG's.

If there is a cradle drop as I am sure there would be then the CV's shouldn't be a problem.

4.10 gears in the front isn't cool.

someone really needs to see if another housing could work with the ifs...just don't look at me  , my jeep aint ready for all that.

I think my idea for the lift is to swap out the D30A with something out of another vehicle. I know this is going to cost and I'll probably spend almost as much as (if not more than) an SFA but that is my choice to make and I have my reasons. I wonder how stout and what gear options there are for the front diff is out of a WK ......... ?

There must be some way to beef up the D30A.

I was thinking of working with a local shop to develop a bit of a kit for an SFA conversion. This wont be for many eve's however. But it was a thought.

There was a thread awhile back about a RAM truck diff being used to replace the D30... you will have to use Google search to find it.

Just got my build sheet yesterday and it says "Dana 30/186MM Front Axle". That is the D30A, correct?

Mostly just trying to figure out why so many people (some old Jeepers) thought I had lockers....

Thought so. Thanks. Unless the previous owner had a lunch-box installed, I don't understand but, I have seen three tires spin in the mud on my rig so, it's possible, I suppose. Why would they get rid of it with only 21k miles, though?

I drove a friends wrangler unlimited today and hated it, made me realize how much I enjoy the KJ. A decent lift is all it needs.

I agree on the wrangler ride. Twice I have test drove a wrangler. The first time was in 03, then again when they came out with the long wheelbase. It still rode like a Jeep! So I'll stick with the KJ. My back would never survive a long ride in a wrangler.
