Didn't we have "videos" section somewhere here?

Here are some quick videos I tookof the muffler.. 50 SUV series, it is not bad, and not too loud, feels like just fine. It could be just a bit louder, it could be the limitation of narrow pipes, but I think it would be too loud and more restrictive with stock pipes if I went with 40.

Sounds good! Just the right amount I would say.

ooooh that sounds good! perfect amount of rumble and noise. i like it! i would go with that for sure, but my friend gave me a 2.5" center in/out 40 series for free. i just have to get a new exhaust catback bent for it for it to fit right. i thought our exhausts were 2.5"? when i took it to the muffler shop to have my 40 installed, the size was off a lot, the stock exhaust seemed more like 2" or 2 1/4.

sooooo all that leads to, what muffler did you get, as in inlet and outlet offsets and size of the inlet and outlet? and did it fit good? thanks:)

Awesome - I think I will go with the 50. What did you pay for part and work?

Thanks for the post! Did you notice any performance gain?

Northbee, I paid $175, shipped and installed.
I bought it from Amazon when I was trying their "Amazon prime" service, free shipping, and took it to Maineke and had them installed. Midas or any other good shop wouldn't do it unless I bought stuff from them (long wait time, tax, etc..) I thought it was OK price for altogether, including cutting old one, extra inches of piping and welding.

Sport, It is too early to tell if there is any performance gain, but it feels like it is not being choked up, and it feels like it coasts better. It doesn't sound loud at all, and it has a weird of way of getting quieter at times. When you are coasting there is no noise at all, when compared to stock. When you rev at neutral it doesn't make much of a noise, it is the sweetest when you take off or drive around 3k rpm. I think the best way to hear it is to do a drive by, since there is too much engine noise inside or when you tape too close to the jeep..

2006 KJ, I am not sure about the extra pipe, there was no room in the box to include a pipe. You might have gotten a deal.

I stuffed the stock muffler into the flow's box. I didn't even check if there was sticker or anything.. What can I do with the stock muffler? any value or a big paper weight?

My 50 is on order...

Local guy wanted $210 CDN... just for the muffler! Another shop told me it would be 1-2 weeks.

Ordered it online, $125 USD (probably 130 CDN) shipped.

The joys of living in Canada!

Now I'm waiting not so patiently and I'll have the $210 guy install it ;-)

Dave

I am going back and forth between getting a tip or not getting a tip...
No tip makes it look all nice and clean, and symmetrical from the rear.. Nobody knows where the exhaust noise is coming from..
Tip makes it look sporty and a bit classy (depending in the tip) but it breaks the symmetry.

Note: Another local muffler shop, no-name place, wanted $400 to make my jeep a dual exhaust two 40 series mufflers just for the installation. He said if I buy two flows and bring it to him, he will take care of the rest, and I don't have to worry about anything else, it will cost me $400.. So it is like $625 for the whole thing.... I said no thanks. That was a few months ago.

Well I got my Flowmaster 50 SUV installed today. (part #52557, thanks hydepin!)

It looks just like hydepin's pics above, they re-used the front flange and put in an extension behind.

I haven't gone far yet but so far I'd have to say I'm loving the sound - nice rumble, not raspy, just right!

Doesn't seem too loud inside, I have a 50 mile drive home mostly highway, so I'm interested to see how it sounds at steady highway speed.

I decided to leave the tailpipe stock for now, no tip... I like the way it's tucked up there out of sight.

Dave

I like out of sight as well.. No tip for me.

As for the 50 mile, you won't even know it is there once the overdrive hits. Especially at about 1400-1500 rpm, or just coasting, no difference from the stock muffler. I am beginning to think it is just too quiet now. :)

40 will not sound that deep.. I heard a few 40s and they sound too "thin" but yes, they are much louder.. I think 3.7 v6 just doesn't have enough juice to make it sound too loud.. but hey, go ahead get 40 :) let us hear what it sounds like on yours.. I actually thought about getting a different muffler to make it sound louder.. but i gotta hear it first on a KJ in person... and 40s I heard weren't so good. we had a few videos posted.

I'm home, I agree once you're in OD it's quite quiet. My only concern now is I'm about to tow a trailer 3000 miles... OD off ;-)

At this point, around town I wouldn't want it any louder, I think it's just the right amount of growl.

Yes, I agree, it would bother just way too much if it was any louder when towing since rpm will be 2500-2800, and that's when it is the noisiest. :)

I just bought a 40 series tonite...and while you are right about them not always sounding their greatest....they do sound good at certain RPMs. Judging by the videos I've listened to...the 40 sounds good down low (lower RPMs) but gets a little 4-cylinder sounding in the higher RPMs. I really like the sound overall and I'm sure it will be plenty loud enough. I got the exhaust pretty cheap ($74) at my local Advance Auto......Flowmaster part # 42541. I'll let you guys know how the install goes and how I like it once I get it on the Jeep.

Great, that's a nice price. Please try to get a video if possible. Revving in Park generally doesn't work with these mufflers, however start-up always sounds nice..
Otherwise the sound is best when it's in gear. :)
