A very, very, long story made short………………..Sarah and I are looking to buy a very used wore out KJ for a very LOW price. We have a lowboy gooseneck car hauler in case if we bought a wrecked KJ or one with a bad motor. I don’t mind completely rebuilding the Jeep from ground up and doing it the way we want it done. With some serious guidance from Marty, Troy, and whoever else who may want to contribute, we want to convert to a SFA. Sarah is going to keep our 07 STOCK KJ as a daily driver and maintain our extended factory warranty for now. I was having a very difficult time justifying the hacking and whacking on a NEW JEEP when we’re going to take half the parts off anyway. SO, with this being said…………………………..Sarah and I have a new project. :D This is not going to be an immediate START. We still have a few financial obligations to take care of before the START. I would like to publicly give my appreciation to the L.O.S.T. Forum as it allows various ways to express ideas. I also want to show our gratitude to everyone’s enthusiasm for the KJ and L.O.S.T. Rockies for making our outdoor experience into a reality. I really was thinking about modifying a Wrangler………………..but, I would much rather take a KJ to that new level. Thanks to Marty and Stacey for introducing a new adventure to Sarah……..she respects you guys a lot and looks forward to spending quality time with L.O.S.T. Rockies. Sarah still talks about Troy’s “cool” Jeep which also inspired her. Sarah knows my competitive nature and also knows that it’s hard for me to stop with a Frankenlifted IFS. She knows that a SFA is too tempting. OUR goal (in time) is best obtainable by converting a used KJ into the machine we both want instead of transforming a brand spanking new JEEP. This is the first time I have mentioned our NEW idea, but I hope MARTY, TROY, and others will join in and take a significant role in our project. For some reason it’s a lot easier to pay labor and parts to those who are part of the CLUB. To be honest, without L.O.S.T., Sarah and I would have no desire to think about a highly modified KJ with a SFA.

This place is going to be like Cali once we have all these giant SFA KJs around. I'm looking forward it! :D I hope someone goes with leaf springs up front, just so we can brag to the Cali crew about Colorado's SFA leaf-sprung KJ! OK that was a joke, but still...it'd be AWESOME!

AHHHH the bug has struck!!!!! I hear you on the money issue,my parts pile is building slower than I would like but other things need to be paid first.I would have no problem helping out as I know others wouldn't mind either. It's rather fun tinkering with vehicles and I rarely get bored doing it.Well another test dummy Marty    !!!!!!!!!!

AWESOME!

Have you looked at waiting to see how that 6" lift from "Jeepin Al's" goes before jumping on the SFA bandwagon?

That, my friend, is an excellent question. I’ve been reading, researching, and then rereading and more researching through all the SFA and Jeepin’ Al’s Lift threads. I’m at the point where we have decided that buying a separate KJ just for modifications is in our best interest regardless if we go for a SFA or Jeepin’ Al’s Lift. However, to answer your question, I have not counted Jeepin’ Al’s Lift out yet. I figure by the time I have the funds and we have found a KJ; the Jeepin’ Al’s Lift will be out, tested, and a more clearer decision will be made at that point in time.

I know……………………between Your Junk, Marty’s Junk, and Troy’s Junk, I decided that I wanted some JUNK! I told my wife it’s all you Guy’s fault that I’m wanting a MODIFIED KJ. She gave me those evil but loving eyes and said, “Your expensive” and then walked away and said, “when’s the next trail run?” So I think she’s hooked and she doesn‘t know it yet! Either way, she approved!

How's that Queen song go again?

If you are looking for a cheap beater KJ, PM Sir Sam on here: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/pro ... ile&u=5303

He lives in Colorado, and is pretty good at finding KJ's that were wrecked for pretty cheap. He did a long detailed writeup recently on a CRD that was rolled, and he got new body panels and made it look almost brand new. I bet he spent less than $10 grand total for an almost brand new CRD after fixing it up. PM him and see if he can help you find what you are looking for. Just try to find something with a straight unibody, the rest is cosmetic and going to get beat up anyways.:D

And as for going SFA, start saving now, picking up piece at a time, etc. There are a couple good options for setting this up, all depends on money. As much as it may appear, using full width axles will only be a few hundred less than stock width, and you get the added strength and stability to run 37's if you wanted to.

Yea strange, Marty Troy and I all have sets of axles... Just goes to show, that once you think you are done, you are just begining.

I started surfing the web for wrecked KJ’s and HOLY SMOKE  ……………….Just in 15 minutes of research I found lots of wrecked KJ’s for good prices! I’m talking 2004 and 2005 LOADED drivable KJ’s for prices as low as $4,000. Lots of these wrecked KJ’s are needing nothing more than replacement bumpers, front fenders, hoods, and grills. Lots of roll over KJ’s as well, selling the whole Jeep for parts at $1,500. Then I saw a few HIGH MILEAGE, LOADED KJ’s selling for $6,000 in great shape. So this is looking very promising.

It's all about finding the right woman. Some are good, some are bad, and some are poison. Just because some are GOOD doesn’t mean they are good for you. I was nearly 27 before I got hitched. I knew Sarah was good for me, but I told her she and I could never be a “THING” because she was too bull headed  . The next day I apologized for my selfish ignorant thinking and then six months later we got married. :D I guess we both are bull headed and determined! Just remember, you can always negotiate in a relationship, but NEVER COMPROMISE! When you Negotiate you both get what you want, when you Compromise neither one of you get what you want. 5 years later and it’s still working for us! We’re actually a pretty good team.

Jen and I have been discussing what we're going to do with the Liberty when I get back from Iraq. We almost traded it in for a TJ Unlimited last weekend but I just can't give up on it and I like the challenge (even when it's frustrating). We then discussed doing Al's 6" lift but decided there would be too many weak points left on the KJ and I would be forever trying to make it work. As money permits (paying bills off with the deployment money), I'm going to start my parts collection for an SFA. I have 15 months to do extensive internet shopping, however, I may need some local help picking up parts for obvious reasons. Wish me luck.

Pete, I would love to see you go through with your SFA. Actually, I think it would be really neat to see several SFA KJ’s within L.O.S.T. Rockies. I’ve been at the same crossroads and having to make similar decisions as you. I’m wanting to buy a wrecked vehicle and modify from ground up. I could buy a Cherokee or Wrangler and modify cheaper and much easier than I could a KJ. However, the KJ with the SFA would be more unique, a bigger challenge, and show some individuality. The SFA KJ will cost more money in the long haul however I can best afford the project by spending extra available funds at my leisure. We need our current KJ and Truck to keep as dependable daily drivers. A third garaged vehicle designed towards off-road use (in my case scenario) would be easier to work on as time and funds permitted. By the time I actually get everything ready for the SFA swap, MARTY will already have his SHOP and ready for SFA surgeries. At that point in time, I hope to bring the KJ before the Rock Lizard and L.O.S.T. Rockies Committee for surgery preparation. As a club member, let me know if I can help in any way. I know you face some obstacles by being deployed., but we can make it work.
