I have to see my local dealer this week so I have "UNDONE" the ORM mod.
The Check Engine light is still on. Is there a procedure to kill this light, or will it automatically disapear after x-many engine start cycles?
Thanks!

I believe it's three starts up to normal temperature.

I believe on OBD II vehicles it has to go through 2 drive cycles.

You could also stop in at the local auto parts and borrow their reader to clear it. I thought I had plugged mine in far enough the last time I returned it to normal but I hadn't. PUSH HARD!

I had to do the same thing and it took 3 full driving cycles to reset. Driving cycle being one where you drove it up to temperature, not just turning on the ignition/start cycle.

In a previous thread, wrote that you could buy a cheap reader for about 70-80 bucks and it will clear them out when you ask it to do so. It will also allow you to check the codes that are being thrown when the CEL is on (the usual codes I ignore but check periodically for new ones).

I would go get the codes cleared at the local Autozone or whatever.
If you go into the dealer and they scan for codes, even though the CEL light is off, it will still show up in the history.
If you get the codes cleared, then the only thing in the history is X amount of starts since the memory has been cleared.
I figure it's better to go in with a clean memory than have them want to change the EGR out because it has been a problem in the past "X" amount of engine cycles (cold - hot - cold). (The dealer not knowing that the ORM was done).

Note: Do the ORM circuit and there won't be anything stored in memory because the CPU will think everything is just fine....

Well its been more than 3+ full cycles and the CEL is still there. What kind of reader would work with these rigs. I have the VAG COM for my TDI so I'm familiar with the code clearing process.
Thanks a lot.

Or get you a ScanGauge II and clear it. At least you will be able to clear it EVERY time you start even with the ORM. Check light will still come on if another code is thrown and you can check for any other codes that might come up.

Having a difficult time understanding the problem with taking this car to the dealership with an active CELL. Just plug-in the MAF and don't tell them it was run while unplugged. It will show a history but the worst thing they can prove is it may have a defective MAF or had some other computer/wiring problem. It's not as if Jeep has a perfect warranty history on this product.

You obviously have some other issue keeping it lit then. I would just leave it as is and deny all knowledge of the MAF being disconnected.

I check my air filter often and somtimes my MAF gets disconnected when I do that without my noticing it.

well I went to a local Autozone...cleared the MAF code but now I have a new code 1854. Talked to my dealer over the phone and they have no clue what that code is all about...next week I'm going to take her in...will update after everything is resolved.

The trouble code 1854 is not related to the engine controller. It could be an issue with the body controller, not sure about it. Have the dealer check it with a DRB, it should provide a decription for the code and the conditions when the code was set. It probably is not a big deal. Is the check engine light still on?

VAG-COM works on my CRD after I got F31 done. Use the OBDII mode. You need a current version of the software, not the old "demo" version :D It also worked with my 96 XJ with only 4 signal wires left attatched and prefectly as is with my 99 XJ

I just got a ScanGauge II and pulled the MAF for the first time to verify that it could clear the codes. I got a CEL as expected and cleared the code, leaving the MAF disconnected.

Then this morning when I started the Jeep I got the CEL again, but no codes are showing on the ScanGauge. So, I don't have a way to clear the CEL. Has anyone else had this problem?

If you leave the MAF disconnected, I would expect you to have a CEL. Reconnect it, clear codes, I would then expect the CEL to stay off.

On my CRD it takes a couple of engine on-off cycles just to get the CEL light to come on after the MAF is disconnected. I have also had the CEL on and no code thrown for a while. I believe this has to do with the ECM communication problems on the bus.

I just got my ScanGauge last week and I just re-disconnected my MAF after a trip to the dealer. I got the CEL on startup, keyed SCAN on the gauge, selected CLEAR, affirmed the CLEAR, and the code was gone as well as the CEL. Worked just as I expected.

You do need to select the SCAN mode to get to the codes and clear them. Are you doing that or just expecting them to default the ScanGauge display because that doesn't happen.
