Larry that tracked down the wire under the seat took some voltage readings. He stated that turning on the key caused the pump to run for a time then shut off then resume after it was running. If we could get the engine to stop with the key on without getting air into the CR3 that would tell us

Funny story - when I was checking the factory lift pump wire (wanted to make sure that I had the right one) - my jeep stalled from an air pocket. Key was on, but as soon as the motor died the voltage went to zero. So I would say it's safe!

I'm in the process of putting the Stanadyne filter in today.

When I drained down the New Holland 5 micron filter that's on the stock filter head, there was so much crap in the bottom of the filter that I had to completely remove the plug before it would drain.

About 10K miles total on that filter, and 6K since I drained it last, just before the last trip to TX.

About 2 ounces of water and so much debris it looked like someone had crumbled up some dried leaves and mixed them in with the fuel.

I get the chance, I'll take some pics and forward them to whoever wants to post them.

If I have to choose between having a decent filter, or keeping the dealer happy over the warranty, the dealer can go take a flying leap.

It sounds like algae in the fuel. I have had this problem a couple of times this summer, I think that it may be related to ULSD. I've had black slimy algae growing in my veggy oil this summer as well perhaps because of the unusual heat

I was originally skeptical about a lift pump on this system but you guys have convinced me it's probably a good idea. I was thinking, I believe the Stanadyne Fuel Manager series heads can have a lift pump put in the head. I know the 1000 can (I have one of those on the 06 Ram (filter head, no lift pump). I think the 100 can. I also think a WIF and heater can be put on the 100. That would solve all the issue with the stock fuel system in one neat package.

For a lift pumpt to be truely effective it needs to be located as close to the tank as possible. Otherwise you still have the potential for air leak on the suction side.

As we once said about Laser maintenace....Vaccum Sucks.
