The GOOD:
~Capable
~Solid as a rock, i have confidence driving near larger vehicles!
~Gas Mileage; holding a steady 17.8MPG city, and not too far north of 23MPG out on the road
~Comfy! not a jarring ride but not floaty either, nice balance!!!
~Small; i love small SUV's! i do admit, i should have checked out the 2007 suzuki grand vitara a bit longer...
~Stylish, everyone at my work loves it clean... and with a bit of mud on it!!!
~Power; with 3.7L of displacement, more power should have been squeezed out of this "aging" engine, but its very torquey in the entire rev band, something the japanese havent been able to figure out how to do with few exceptions
~Safety, ESP; TCS; ERM; EBA; EBD; ABS; TPMS; OCS (occupant classification system); its like alphabet soup!!!!!!!!!
~Well rounded, something the wrangler has a hard time with in my opinion is being well rounded. great in the city, great on highway, great off road!

The BAD:
~Foreign competition has surpassed some of the dated technology the liberty has. A V6 with only 12 Valves??? No Variable Valve Timing??? Hello year of 1975!!
~Sometimes its hard to come by a manual transmission model... with the Grand Vitara, its super easy to find one!!!
~No MP3 cd player means i have to burn regular audio CD's and i listen to techno, those songs are 5-12 minutes long which means only about 10 songs on a single CD. No aux input... Again, Foreign technology has surpassed this...
~is that a glove box or a mail slot?????? Cant be either because i could fit more crap in a mail slot...
~Quality issues with some of the panels, but it still exceeds my expectations for an american made vehicle, and its nothing i cant deal with!!!
~The front window switches are in a great location but the rear switches tend to blend in... bigger switches or nearby icons would help me from having to guide rear passengers to their location all the time...
~"Dude, theres like nowhere to put this spare change!!!" Lack of cubby holes...

The Good:

This site and the people on it. Only been here for a bit but I love it. Thanks everyone.
Quiet interior with windows up – it’s not a luxury car but it’s worlds better than my parents Mercury Sable (all 4 models of them!)
Full time 4-wheel option – even though it’s a little rough
It has a low range
More overall weight in the rear keeps the back end from unhooking when you don’t want it on wet roads (like the Cherokees used to do.) And if it does, you just put it in “full time”
Rear wiper is the perfect size and it works
Seats – mine are OK and fully adjustable
Spare tire mount – not taking up room inside and not beneath the car
Fun to drive
Great sound system (infinity factory option)
Radio controls on the steering wheel
But warmers so my wife can stay warm while I have the windows down or the AC on!
Sun roof
Off road ability is still good in stock form
Lot’s of payload capacity
Towing ability (haven’t done it yet but I got passed on hill taking it easy by another guy in a fully loaded down liberty with a 2-axle camper hooked up to the back. I was impressed and had to give a thumbs up.)
Pretty firm on the road – it doesn’t scurry about like the new Xterra’s do when it goes over bumps
Doesn’t wobble too much at all for an SUV
It’s a true SUV and not a cross over you that makes you worried even when you take a pothole to hard.
It’s made in the good old USA
It’s a jeep
Fold-away mirrors are plastic so you don’t need to worry to much about scratching them on branches. If they do break you don’t need to match the paint.
Fog lights can be used without the headlights on – I like that.
I can’t wait to drive it in the snow
a lever to go into 4x4 not a little button.

The Bad:

Window switches in the middle?
Rear window switches in the middle at your feet?
Car lurches at low speeds in full time 4-wheel
Unless I get a lift I will continue to nail my forehead on the lift gate latch when it’s open
No one touch window up feature
Extra weight in back won’t let the back unhook without a lot of gas (not as much fun if you want it to happen;)
Not enough storage compartments – no place for change/cell phones/ ect if the cup holders are full
Center arm rest should have the same soft leather as the seats.
Shotgun side front leg room is smaller than the drivers side (someone mentioned the heat core is placed on that side?)
It’s got but warmers. Why not but coolers?


The Ugly:

The lift gate will not keep rain water from spilling down your back when it’s open and you’re under it
People in the back seat unintentionally opening the windows b/c their feet hit the switches

Extra weight keeps things slow
IFS means almost no ground clearance when the suspension is fully compressed. I’m terrified of hitting a tree stump while the front takes a dip and ripping that cross bar right off.
Rear seat won’t fold flat – you can’t even put small peaces of drywall in the back
The glove box can’t hold the owners manual? Come on now, that should be a requirement.


I’ve only had my jeep for about 2 months. I’m sure I could keep going with this. Overall I’m very happy with the Jeep.

What? The only switch for my rear window is the one on my key fob.




Open your glove box, look at the top, there should be a slot that the manual slides into.

I was talking about the back seat windows. Those switches are at the bottom of my center consol. The back lift gate is only on my key fob. But come to think of it, if I could open AND close the window gate that would be cool.

Do we have a gadget-man on the forum who will try to make that mod?

FYI...Jeep is my first vehicle...and well...Jeep! Pretty much got me hooked on Jeeps as well as Wheeling.

Good:

L.O.S.T.-- without this site, I probably would have never thought about a liberty but after researching on here I discovered what little aftermarket there was and that there actually was a "liberty-oriented" lift kit...hence the FRANKENLIFT!! And like others have said....you guys ALL rock!!

Fun to drive--Winters are a BLAST in the KJ and the 4X4 system works great with such a short wheelbase. I was surprised what I could do unlifted with stock tires in the snow!! All around a fun vehicle to drive, and I can't even imagine what the CRD is like!

Looks--I for one liked the looks of the liberty...even though it may be "cute" and such, I still like the look after a few more masculine looking mods...like bigger meats, a lift, roof rack, and bumpers.

Bad:

3.7L is kinda pudgy and of course the gas milage SUCKS!!

Stock SRA's really suck....

Weak Radiator--had been patched by previous owner and I had to replace....plastic edges can't handle the weather.

HORRIBLE MPG...as said before

IFS....makes ride nice...but it needs a better system that leaves room for improvement. (as if no one was guna lift this thing....c'mon... )

CRD was a failure....awesome idea but it seemed to not work for many. Or atleast this is what I've read....

-Hood latch assembly springs loosened, I have to open the hood from underneath the vehicle with a long screwdriver
-Upper ball joint failure with OEM arm, very scary!
-LBJ recalls push me to realize Mopar ball joints are just POS's, which is a sad, but truely UGLY conclusion
-Seeing Jeep dealerships swindle the KJ community and the Jeep community at large just for lifting and offroading a vehicle's whose advertised market niche is "offroad capability"

-small cargo area for a family of 5 (But that is what the roof rack is for)
-tail lights had to be modified to keep bulbs from exploding (removed plastic lens inside taillights)
-takes too much mud and water over hood onto windshild while in deep water
-factory tires have no grip on rocks
-tail gate window doe not close with the push of a button

Ugly
-Lower balljoint recall
-AC blower has stopped working twice
-gas milage is terrible, but if I wanted fuel economy I would have bought a Honda!
