Guys, I need to know what size bolt this is connecting the UCA? I need to get it undone to lower the whole unti so I can get the strut out, it's stuck in there now . I unbolted both strut fork locations and it doesn't just fall out like the instructions would make you think :(.

I use a 13/16 or 21mm ?? on it and it works you will need to turn it off some and then back on some to get the rust out of the threads, I take them almost all the way off then back on enough to protect the threads and with 1/2 hits of a 3 lb hammer it will pop loose. Take the nut off, raise the upper arm up out of the road and there you go!

Awesome guys thanks, just to verify I don't need a strut compressor to get it in and out? Should I rent one just to make it easier?

Will not help you at all, just have a jack under the lower control arm when you bust loose the upper arm, then lower the jack, pulling up on the upper arm and you should be able to get it out just fine, I will keep checking back every so often

You may also have to use a 10mm socket on the lower part of the ball joint to keep it from spinning ,That's what mine did when I tried to losen it.

When you tighten the upper ball joint start the nut on then tap down on the arm onto the spindle that will seat the ball joint onto the spindle and the ball joint will not spin

Well I got the nut off! Now, I go to get the bolt out that it was on, broke my 10mm socket. Then, I go buy a new one...it's too deep, it hits the brake line. Next, I go back to return it to get a more shallow socket, all they had was the 12 point 10mm rather than six. Get home, it doesn't grip the bolt and I don't want to strip it :(. Be back tommorrow when my dad comes home with his tool box.

If you got the nut off just tap on the bracket with a hammer and it should release the ball joint - the 10mm socket is no longer needed once the nut is off..

the bolt that is 10mm is actually part of the upper balljoint.smack the fat piece right above the "Bolt"several times with a bfh,and it will eventually let the whole uca pop up and out of your way.

Smack that big rusty piece that the UCA is in and it should drop down after a couple licks.

I'm hitting it right above where the bolt is, what it's threaded through. Should I hit the larger part on the right of the bolt?

Sorry for my ignorance guys...

Hit where I marked in the pic,a few good hits from a 2-3lbs hammer will break the UBJ free, make sure you hit it like you got a pair and have the nut threaded a little so nothing flys at you, also do not have a jack holding any off the wieght of the suspension.

    Image

You do not need a 10mm socket, you can use a 10mm wrench(what I use) or a cresent wrench(which I also use) to hold the UBJ stud while getting the nut off.

Thanks troy.

I got the 1st side done and ready to bolt the spacer on in the morning.

Now, onto the second sign and my lucky continues to pour out of me faster than my sweat....

I get the bolts off the top of the strut fork, great. I go down for the bottom loosen it, wait...I'm on the wrong nut?! Tighten it back up, SNAP, excellent. The tools are away for the night.
