the reason you dont tell them is because if you do maintance yourself when you are still under warranty, they do not have to honor it anymore. unless its done by a certified mechanic with proof or done by the dealership then they can blame the problem on you and say tough luck.
That is totally false, they still have to honor the bumber-to-bumber warrenty unless a modification you do caused the failure in question.I worked at a dealer so I know a little about what they will and will not warrenty.

yes and my family has dealt with very many dealers also. They do not have to honor that warranty if you did it yourself and have no license degree in mechanics, why do you think everyone here is telling him not to tell the dealer he did it himself. There is a reason for that, maybe your dealer still honors the warranty but there are many that wont. We have a family friend that has managed a dealership for 17 years now, and he even told us, its up to the dealer, yes they can still cover it, but they also can refuse too. All they have to say is, that you did something wrong and were the reason the failure occured and you should have taken it to a certified mechanic or to a dealership. It has happend before

Time to find a dealer with a brain then, well at least here in the states they can't do that without proof a aftermarket modification made by you caused the failure. There are the weird one's like I know for a fact that if you put a K&N air filter(or AFE) in a FORD it totally voids the warrenty but that is stated in the warrenty book for Ford that any oiled air filters are a no-no.

Anyways at least I'm ASE certified Master Auto Technician(about that time for recert  ),they can't say I'm not able to do the work myself  .
