so, about 2 months ago, my KJ threw a code, 0306, cylinder 6 misfire. then last week, it happened again, right as i was leaving the dealer from my $29 oil change and tire rotation. i went back in and asked them to check it, and it was the same code. i was told it could be plugs, coils, "carbon buildup on the valves", or lastly, and "least likely" a defective cylinder head. well, guess what? they had it yesterday for diagnosis, and called me to inform me that BOTH heads were losing compression! today they started the warranty job of replacing them both, and loaned me a Commander for the weekend and monday. BOTH FREAKIN HEADS??? and i've heard that this isnt an unusual repair. 4500 miles left on my 70,000 power train warranty! <wipes sweat from brow>
dont ignore those codes, brothiz and sistiz!

How was the commander? Was it a Hemi?

I've seen the inside but never driven one myself.

. Did they do a bleed down test or compression test. Don't know how they can tell the heads are cracked with out ripping it apart. Could be head gaskets.

Did you over heat it at all

Cool at the least they are fixing it for free. Doubt the heads are cracked. Probably a valve problem. It's easier for the tech to just replace both heads than to replace the vavles in just one cylinder. Then have it come back with low compression in another cylinder and do the whole job over again.

Hall: the commander is not a hemi, and it wasnt real impressive acceleration wise.
Saber: i dont know what tests they did, but i was told that cylinders 5 and 6 LOST compression when under testing.
myjeep: i dont know if im gonna be able to get a straight answer from anyone re: what the actual problem was, but i'm glad it's under warranty.
12 months/12,000 miles warranty on anything they fix/replace etc. thats 5-6 months with all the driving i do.....yikes

No doubt!! I wouldn't really question them either. 2 brand spankin new heads under warranty can't really complain  If you ask me the more parts they replace the better!

If there is any problem in the heads, the dealership will say they're ruined. Same with the short block. A five star dealership told me my heads were destroyed, and my block was cracked so nothing was rebuildable when all I had done was tear up two valves and two rings, which scorched two cylinders, and burnt two plugs. They built the timing completely wrong, and bent the housing on my transmission when they installed it. Hope the dealership does a better job of rebuilding yours than they did with mine. At least they won't be pulling it.

Even though you are able to get this under warranty. Demand a complete listing on the repair and a complete list of all observations. If they balk at this demand a complete list of all employee's who set onefinger on your Libby. also the repair Tech, Service manager, store manager and owner. When they baulk at this, then be afraid be very afraid. If they continue to baulk at these requests tell them they can either do this or talk to a lawyer additionally you can bring in the additional government agencys. Just setting up some ground work before you have to go to battle.
Just some options since most on this post agree 2 heads failing is just to weird for explantion!!!

I would agree with you if they were doing something wrong, but it seems like they are doing him right.

Just be sure to get copies of all invoivces, they should list all parts and labor for the repair.
