My first time at the "Five star " dealer with the CRD now that i have owned it for 2 months

Went to get the following done;

blower recall
tranny codes P0841 P0700
Change fuel filter

When I picked it up;

New blower fine, I assume

They replaced the trans filter as per TSBs 21-007-06 21-55-02-93 (unfortunately they did not put the fluid up to "hot" with the engine running warm in park, so I had to beg for the last 0.5 liter to top it off)

Fuel Filter ?? get this.... they said that it did not need replacing. I said, "this is the original filter with 30K on it !" "Oh, okay, we will take it back and get it done while you wait"

I wait an hour.

They come back and say.... "the service manager said that the water separator does not need replacing"
I say... "it is the filter and water separator unit I want replaced, please"
They say.... "oh well, the filter is sepearate unit and is by the fuel pump and is not easily replaced"

So I am getting the impression they dont want to touch this "pandora's box"..... but that is precisiely why I want them to change the filter, not me. If it leaks air.... they fix it. I persist.

I walk over to to the parts counter and buy the filter/separator unit. I take it to the service manager and say "I want you to install this filter, please."

They reply..... "uh, er, ah, um..... our "super diesel tech" cut himself in half with an injector spray and his wife wont let his top half come back to work, la, di da ,di da,..." " how about coming in next week when the "lesser diesel tech" is back from therapy and detox ?"

Okay... so I will take the filter to them next week, and I shall report back!

Bill

That is funny! Not your unfortunate (and all too common) dealership experience but your rendition..hope they get it done right. I asked to have my fuel filter changed last week (I was at 23.5K). My dealership has a "CRD" tech, that is still in one piece. Im lucky I guess, Id be even more lucky if I had the time to learn and perform all the work myself...

I would let the dealer do it and KEEP THE MONKEY ON THEIR BACK :roll: Yes it's easy but the filter head is a ticking time bomb. In the past posters have been charged for the filter bracket going bad when they replaced their filter. Not only can the filter bracket go bad but it can take the pump with it :shock:

I seem to have one of the best dealers around. I took the Lil tractor to them last week to have the axle seals replaced and at the same time asked them to replace the CAC hoses and document the air in filter for future reference (my warranty is almost up). No questions asked. they only replaced the turbo side CAC hose since as they showed me the driver side did not have any oil in it. The SM attached a note to my DCX account stating that my IP could have suffered damage from air in the filter head and documented the P0093 even though I had already cleared the code myself. I think that because they handle a lot of diesels (sprinter, cummins, even several CRDs) it makes a big difference in service.
