Barney Style Translation:
By purchasing this kit and building it with a soldering iron, etc... you will end up with a metal box with wires hanging out. You will then mount this box in your engine bay and attach the said wires to wires already running in your engine bay from the factory. This metal box will then electronically disable your MAF (mass airflow sensor) which is commonly termed the infamous "ORM" without setting your Check Engine light. The benefits of disabling your MAF means less soot in your intake, less use of the EGR (thus disabling an emissions item which is why this is called an ORM - or Off Road Mod), higher MPG, quicker turbo spoolup, etc.

Barney says read this thread first - http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=19309&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

As far as having someone build it up I'm working that issue. I will let the people who request this option know what I find out.

Any word on the preassembled kits? Also, do the directions that come with the kit tell you what to use to seal it and/or insulate it from heat and shock?

The "kit" is mainly what Turbo Tim's Parts list consists of with the addition of a PCB designed for the ORM. All wiring from the kit to the vehicle as well as vibration insulation or "potting" will be up to the end user. The kit basically facilitated a group buy on the pcb's and components to keep everyones cost down. Almost everyone has paid on the original list. If there are any non payers then people from the waiting list will be informed as to the availability for a kit. If everything goes smooth for the first kits and there is enough interest for another run(min pcb order required) I'd concider doing it again. Right now I'm pretty busy seperating components into kits and trying to get my regular job done too.

The last run was $65 shipped. As I stated before I think I lost $ on that batch. So depending on how much the PCB's and components go for this time around I think were looking at $75 shipped this go around.

I'd like to get this list upto 50 so we can get a break on the components, but we'll let it run another week or so an go with what we have. So if your on the fence get on the list cause when this run is gone that's it. Deadline to sign up will be September 14th.

UFO,
That sounds great! Would you also be able to test it? Even if you can't, could we just get it drop shipped to you? Man , I love it when a plan comes together!

TIA,

Yes, very likely I can bench test it as well. I have a bench power supply, Fluke scopemeter and a function generator in my garage. Drop ship would be fine too.

Yes, I have a PayPal account, and I can supply that and my address for those that wish for some build assistance. I'm going to review the kit again, and give a revised dollar estimate on soldering the kits. I'm thinking it's less than 30 minutes per board once I've set up my bench. I may only be able to crank out a few per day, so they'll be built in the order that I'm contacted. I'm obviously not looking to make money, I just want to help out -- it's important to me to help these VM engines last as long as possible.

Loco, if it is not a problem, could you send mine to UFO? If not, I understand. You have done tons putting this together already. UFO. How would you like to arrange for payment? And thanks up front for helping out us less than experienced at this.

I'll ship it where you like. We will get all the info on where you want it shipped when we close the sign-up stage and I send out payment info. It will be up to you however to pay for UFO to ship them to you once he solders up your board for you.

OK, here is what I can do for kit assembly.

I can solder all the components to the PCB, including enough wire to fit to the connector, and wires to the power resistor. I could put on the connector pins if desired, but since I haven't built one yet, I don't know how long to make the wires. I do not wish to do any of the mechanical assembly. If people feel testing is necessary, let me know, and I can think some more about that, but this is a fairly simple set of circuits and it sounds like the PCB has been proven. So if the components are properly placed and soldered it will work as designed. I work in aerospace and am familiar with the assembly practices, and am used to doing lots of inspection.

PCB Assembly $25, and I'll ship to the lower 48. You will still need to trim the wires and attach the crimps, and of course assemble the box. If someone can identify the optimum wire lengths for me, I will attach the crimps to the wire ends but not snap them into the connector (you need to attach the connector to the box first) for another $15.

Anyone wishing me to do this, PM me, and I will supply my shipping information as well as my PayPal account.

When do you need funds? I think if people want the "big meal deal", they send the full amount to you and then you send the kits to UFO with a money order ($20.00/each) for the assembly ... just to keep things simple.

It's up to LocoCRD, but it would probably be less confusing for all involved for Loco to get paid for the kit, and supply him with a shipping address. Anyone needing the kit soldered just PayPal me directly and supply the next shipping address. I'm not sure if that's workable or acceptable, but I think it's important for all to be aware of all the details as the potential for confusion is hgh.

I'll send out Payment info around the 14th. I will order the pcb's also on the 14th and they will take 2weeks to have manufactured. So if everyone can get me their $ within a week of when I send out payment info that would be much appreciated. As for UFO's fee's, I have no problem with you guys paying me the extra and me forwarding the $ to UFO just make sure what all work you want done from him and the cost accordingly. Here is a quote from his post about his cost...

PCB Assembly $25, and I'll ship to the lower 48. You will still need to trim the wires and attach the crimps, and of course assemble the box. If someone can identify the optimum wire lengths for me, I will attach the crimps to the wire ends but not snap them into the connector (you need to attach the connector to the box first) for another $15

Please ask any questions you might have now as I had a few people bail out last time and leave me hanging, luckily there were people waiting to grab the extra kits I ended up with.

I now have over 4k on my ORM circuit or as some are calling it the "synthetic EGR mod" and my in town mileage is still better than it has ever been since putting the 255/70's on the rig. The extra pep also was noticed by the wife, who now seems alot more intrested in driving the little beast. Now if someone only made a decent bolt-on replacement for our oil spewing CCV's, but that another story.

Yep, everything gets pluged back in and it all looks factory if you hide your SEGR mod under the kickpanel like some of us have done.

OK we have 52 people signed up. I will be ordering monday noonish, so you have from now till then to climb aboard or miss the boat. Don't forget to read this thread and decide if you want yours to go to UFO first.
