Tire pressure monitor

I recently put aftermarket rims on my 06 CRD. I'm now getting a flashing tire pressure light. Can this be reprogrammed to ignore the fact that it's not getting tire pressure info from wheel sensors?? Any body got a better idea?

I just deal with it, hopefully the bulb burns out soon in the dash :twisted:

I think the dealer and turn it off. Why didn't you swap the sensors?

They won't work with steel rims, will they?

I was told that the TPM sensors might not hold a seal on the steel rims and that it would cost an extra 12 bucks or something for each wheel so I just told them to go with normal valves.

I was thinkin I would drill 4 more holes in the spare rim and mount the TPM sensors on it!!!! I guess I'll just put a piece of black tape over the light... :lol:

Well, I am certainly not an expert here, just an old farm boy. But my inspection of the TPM valve stem is that it is a pretty common metal, bolt in tire stem with a rubber or similar product air seal. The only thing different about it is that interally it has a pressure sensor and a proximity transmitter. Any metal to dissimilar metal contact issues would likely be minimized by the rubber seal which would keep the metals apart and since both the steel wheel and the aluminum wheel are metal both would have a similar effect on the radio signal with respect to blocking it from the receiver. So I am throwing the BS flag on the "can't use 'em on a steel wheel".

Someone recently had a post in the CRD section complaining that one of his sensors was alarming on his new steel wheels. I think he went back to the tire dealer and found out that they had put the wrong caps or stems on the valve and that fixed the problem.

They should work with steel rims. You may not be able to train the older type sensors though.

I didnt even bother getting them to "try" and see if they held a seal because it would have cost me 50 dollars or so (I didnt even feel asking why it would cost money over the phone), and Id much rather have some light go on that I know why its on instead of having some TPM sensors that MIGHT hold a seal and would probably end up telling me my tire pressure is too low when in fact (i end up stopping the car and checking) all tires are at their proper PSI. I had issues with the TPM system since as long as I can remember, and I was never a fan of it anyways. IF the system could tell me the exact pressure in the tires, I might be a little more inclined to care about it. As far as letting me know when my tires are low on pressure, it was probably intentional or I would definitely notice that a tire has indeed gone flat. Just my opinion.

I have the EVIC with tre pressure display. Now and then I lose a sensor for a while that quits reporting but it somes back later. I like the system just fine.
