A good reason official LOST events don't allow drinking out on the trails.

They have charged the young man who was driving with vehicular homicide. Now he has to face that plus live with the fact the due to his irresponsibilty one of his freinds is dead. :cry:

It just gets more and more tragic :evil:

I feel very sorry for the family that lost there child. However I have no feelings for the driver and hope he is convected for the murder of his friend. This guy is the same as someone who shoots and kills someone in my eyes. I would like to see him do some long time in jail and never be able to drive again. Its not like his friend died in a freek traffic accident.

k i know its a bad thing and all....but why did he swerve im sure theres more to the story. Granted drinking and driving is bad but normally on a 4wd trail isnt the speed kept down and dont just blame the driver as everyone in the car im sure knew what they were doing and knew the driver was drinking. It could have been a freak accident where a deer jumped out and he swerved to miss or falling rocks haha i dk. Yes drinking driving is very bad but you cant place all the blame on the driver everyone in that car knew hat they were drinking. Just trying to keep an open mind you know but it deffinetly is a tragic.

Sorry, but my mind will never change on this type of topic. Once you drink and decided to drive you put yourself and everyone else in danger. I have lost family to a drunk driver and look to every drunk driver as the lowest sucm on the earth and they all deserve to get the most punishment there is. Maybe if he were sober he would have been able to handle driving the car. Sorry again but I will never change my mind. And if I was on a jury for a drunk driver it would be a guilty vote for me every time.

^^^ i totally agree but everyone else in the car was drinking weren't they at least thats what i thought after reading the article. So you cant just blame the driver is all I am saying. They knew he was drinking they could have got out and walked or found another ride.

In the article the Sgt. states, that the troopers "believe" the driver was drinking, but "didn't know" if the passengers were drinking. He also states that, "None Of Them" were wearing a seatbelt.

So why didn't they do a blood alcohol test if they "believed" the driver was drinking :?:

Also, the 20 yr. old victim( thrown from the vehecle, not wearing a seatbelt) had a fake I.D. for 22, guess they didn't "believe" he was drinking either.

I'd have to conclude that they were all at blame.

Almost sounds like the one that died is the one who supplied the rest of the minors with alcohol. Perhaps this is just instant karma at work? I wasn't there, don't know any of the real facts... makes it hard to really judge... even harder considering I AM "on call" for jury duty for the next 6 months.

I hope I don't have to deal with any crap like this.

As I stated earlier this is a tragic occurence. Yes, IF their was no alcohol involved IF all were wearing seat belts. this whole story might have a different ending. But since none of us were there How do we know? Some of you are around his age I'm a lot older and for the rest of us who are older. Remember when you were 20??? We were imortal, indestuctable and new the answers to every thing. If anyone denies it I'm happy for you for reaching so much intlelgence and wisdom and perfection at such a young age. What I still maintain is it's just tragic, Youth, Alcohol, and Carelessness, usually end badly. I'm not saying forgive them but don't throw any stones either. :roll:

I agree, IF they had been wearing seat belts, the results probably would have been drastically different... alcohol involved, or not. (but still, don't drink and drive. That's just stupid).

This is actually tragic in another way that not many of US think about but, those who are trying to close our trails will certainly be using these sort of events in the not-very-distant future.

They were Frat brothers and there were others around watching. This was an unofficial Frat retreat, per the TV news.

With that info, chances are good (but not 100% definite) that:

1. horseplay was involved and they were goofing off in the vehicle
2. alcohol was involved
3. underage drinking occurred
4. if the passenger, that died, had been wearing his seatbelt, he would be alive right now

There's no room for horseplay in your vehicle, drinking alcohol, and not wearing your seatbelt when driving on trails.
