I drove down Baja for 2 weeks, saw 2 Fj's and hundreds of KJ's. Jeep is better for Baja.

Sure the drivetrain and suspension might be great for off-roading but I wouldn't drive one because of the huge blind spots created by those tiny freakin windows. Sure it would crawl over the rock, you just have to be able to see it first. :P

I pulled an FJ out of a mud hole once. Kid musta thought it would float like a boat or something. Too bad he was too fat to crawl out the tiny booty windows.

My bad. All three of the ones that I've seen up close had one so I just assumed...

Was just looking at Toyota's website and noticed that they come standard with 17" wheels. Gotta pay more for smaller rims! Screw that! But, at least they do offer some decent off-road options for it.

I will, in about 5 more years, when I have a title for my KJ and can afford to get something else.

My friend and I test drove an FJ over the summer because his parents were thinking about buying one. So we headed over to the Toyota dealership and mounted up a loaded black FJ. The chubby, ignorant salesman proceeded to give us his schpeel. First off, he told us that the FJ has independent suspension all around, and it doesn't. So he doesn't even know his own product. Then he said, "If you can't get there in an FJ, you're probably not supposed to go there." And I added, "...unless you're supposed to go there in a Wrangler." Then he was all, "The FJ was ranked #1 by numerous independent off-road magazines." And I was like, "Dude, bullcrap. What magazines?" Then he was all, "Uhh... Well, this baby's got a locking diff." And I was like, "The Rubicon has two." Then he was all, "The FJ has traction control." And I was like, "Yeah, so do the new Wranglers." I finally stopped toying with him because it was obvious he was getting very upset, like it was a surprise to him that a Wrangler is better off-road than an FJ.

I can also attest to the visibility deficiency. I was unfortunate enough to have to ride in the back, and man, oh man... FJs are like little, dark jail cells with mail slots for windows. Put a paper bag over your head, and that's what the visibility is like in an FJ.

Didn't the Kia whateveritis beat out the FJ for 4x4 of the year in one of the magazines?

about the same time I bought my KJ, my uncle bought a new Ridgeline. we're outside at my other uncle's wedding and he says "so uh...i got a new truck" and points off to the right

"WOW, that's sweet! when did you get that?" "a couple weeks ago" "Man I never figured you'd buy somethin that big..."
I thought he meant the red 2500 Ram 4x4...

"it's not that big" "dude, it's monstrous" "uh, wrong truck...mine is the silver Ridgeline"
a few moments of silence pass

"I thought you said you bought a truck?" "Go drive your girlie lookin SUV and shut up"

whats weird is i compared the 2007 FJ with a 2007 liberty on edmunds.com and edmunds also says the FJ has a full independent suspension. so it makes me wonder if the FJ was designed to have one but it got dropped for an SRA at the last minute???

i hope to get rid of the kj in about 2 years for an FJ...

Why??? Don't get me wrong, if that's what you really want to do go for it, but I just have to ask your reasoning?

i like the look of the FJ A LOT better, it looks tougher but at the same time fun, much like a wrangler. i drove one and i dont think the blind spots are bad at all, the lack of windows just makes the interior darker. the trick is you have to position your head as if you were sitting on the center console and adjust your mirrors from that spot, not the drivers seat

it drives a tad bit better
much much much more aftermarket support!!!! 6-inch lifts are no only do-able, but are popular!!!
more power and great drivetrain!
better build quality. not saying the kj's isnt good, toyota just 1-ups it... make that 3-ups it
im really starting to question my jeeps long term reliability (im on tranny problem #2 amongst other things), so this relationship will be over by 3 years or 36,000 miles

the reason i didnt get one initially is because toyota dealerships are marking prices up by up to $2,000 in the denver area for the basic steel-wheeled versions (even more of a markup for the nicely equipped ones), that is if you are able to find one on the lot that dosent have a yellow "sold" sticker on it. and no negotiating... what you see on the sticker is pretty much what you are paying, no questions asked!
